My latest creation.
Fabricated from T6 aluminum plate. Painted the plate the same blue as my car. Still have a little work to do with connecting the gauges and trimming the plate so they sit further forward and canted toward the driver but that's approximately how it's going to look.
Took about an hour to mod and fab. Gunna take me like 3 hours to get all the stuff connected and powered up. Adding a boost/vacuum gauge, oil pressure and diff temp. I'm considering drilling a bunch of holes in it so the vents still work but probably not gunna do that. Probably going to pull out the bulk of the hvac system.

sissies. I have the brutal california summers but I've only ever turned the AC on to see if it still works. The heat on the other hand I use in the winter. Probably going to have to leave the defroster intact but the rest will probably go.

haha yeah i dont use the AC in the summer here. only use the heat to defrost the windows when there is 1/4" of ice on them in the winter :P
what are you going to do with the other area where the AC controls are?

Those HVAC switches will probably stay there to control the defroster and keep it looking like it's still a street car. I had considered pulling the whole hvac system including the controls and making a single large plate but I decided that I could sacrifice a little fluff in the way of superfluous ***** for cleaner looks. I'll have to re-route the blower outlet for those vents to the floor or the defrost. Haven't spent enough time in the hvac system to know which way that will go.
If anyone wants something like it I can make you a template from mine once it's finished and fitted properly (prob this weekend). I won't be making any of these for others for a while but HPS may end up carving them out.
If you could have the same basic thing but still have air blow through it through slits (non-adjustable) would that solve the problems for the guys in the heat zones?

I would much rather not have AC then get rid of music. Thats just stupid.

hardly... anyone that thinks a dry 110degree day is not hot is stoned. There's nothing easy about california weather other than the lack of snow in the bulk of the state. The radio may eventually be replaced by an eeePC but the car will always have music. Apart from that, I have pretty much all the gauges I'll ever need now. It's more a matter of keeping them below the window sill so they're not totally visible from the outside. Keeps the car a little lower key.

This just happened near me

Hey Pcola, come spend 4 or 5 hours in 116 degree weather and then tell us it's nothing

I grew up in SoCal in the desert. I remember people dropping on the ground and seizing during the summer, cars lining the roads with steam pouring out, people drenched in sweat jumping from enclosed area to enclosed area, fires spontaneously erupting in dry brush. Average summer temps where I grew up were 105-115. Hot is hot. Period. It kills the stupid and the unprepared equally well.
FWIW, We also have an ocean completely covering one side of the state and it gets humid here too. Up here in the northern half it's a couple degrees cooler than the southland but it's also a good bit more humid pretty much all the time and when it's not that only means it going to be insanely hot. Down south if it gets humid it's just going to suck that much more cuz it ain't cooling off.
Florida is not the home of hot. Hell the hottest recorded temp ever in the US was in California and sorry to say but it ain't even hot here compared to some states. Live in arizona or new mexico or texas for a while. Them's hot.

I've been in Goodlettsville during the summer before, and that **** was nasty. Not quite as bad as getting punched in the face by 115 degrees, but definitely pretty miserable to be outside.
