Default Intake

What intake should I put on my 02 GT 5 SPD. I'm looking at the Steeda Cold Air Intake. Any other recommendations. What should I look out for and worry about. What are the pros and cons.

Thanks,
Nik

I have a BBK on my 03GT. Not sure if any make more power than others. I like the BBK. It was easy to install and it has a great polished look. Just be careful when you take the 02 sensor off the stock intake. Thats the only thing that took a little extra care. Other than that it was probably the easiest mod i have made so far.

Get the JLT...either the RAI or the CAI. Color match it to your car and enjoy.....MT suposedly will be carrying them very very soon.

If you want to do an actual intake, def def def go JLT. Only CAI out there I believe with a 4inch diameter inlet pipe. And yes, for another 15 bux you can color match it to your car, great touch! The RAI (straight pipe) is 185 from JLT with shipping and a color paint option.

Just MAKE SURE that the CAI you get is NOT aluminum. (ie. The BBK CAI)

Aluminum CAI's actually have been recently tested and you LOSE HP on your car. Make sure you get a plastic CAI.

I had the densecharger full-lenght CAI and I liked it very much, it was plastic so it did not hold any heat.

its not a O2, its the IAT. i thought those years had the IAT sensor built into the MAF. if i had to do that step over i would of just bought a k&n filter and removed the silencer.

Okay so now the only thing left for me to do is order one, do I go with the JLT True Cold Air Complete Kit or the JLT Complete Ram Air Intake Kit. What are the pros and cons of each?

I prefer the full in fender CAI. The only downfall is that it puts the MAF inside the fenderwell which causes the issue of the wires chafing on the metal going into the fenderwell. THere is some fuel line included in the kit, that's what it's for. I didn't realize why it was there and wound up blowing the fuse to my ECU. The upside is that it puts the filter in the fender where it's not going to get hot air from inside the engine compartment.

So is it worth the extra $50?

I can't compare the two directly because I only have the full one. It's been sitting in my dining room since the blower was put on. I can say that if I was looking, I would get the full one all over again. I'd just be more careful with the MAF wires when I put it on.

Stay Away from the fenderwell style. Even if it is JLT. Too many problems associated with the bend going into the fenderwell. I say the only way to go is the RAI.

Hello Everybody! New to this forum but not to intakes.
FWIW, flowbench tests have proven that the longer the intake, the better performance in the low/mid RPM range. Conversely, the shorter intakes help more with higher RPM flow...

Just curious, but is that on the 4.6 modular engines or just engines in general?

The tests were performed on a well known NASCAR team car (Chevy) and a well known GTP car (NSX). In both cases, the results were the same, so I would assume (Yeah, I know) it applies to all n/a engines.

Yea, I've just heard that out 4.6 modular engines don't improve much at all with a CAI, at least the 2 valves. IDC tho, it doesnt stop me from getting a CAI, haha!
