Default 5.4L swap, van intake vs truck intake

First off, I'll formally introduce myself to you guys. New to the site. I have a 2000 mustang GT that Im in the middle of swapping the 5.4L into. Started doing research online and have found sooooo much info pertaining to the swap MOSTLY from this site. So I decided to become a member.
Well, I picked up an E-series long block 5.4L from the local yard for $100. Reconditioned the P.I. heads from my 4.6 for $400. and picked up an 04 cobra alum. flywheel/clutch setup for $75. So, as you can see this swap is on the cheap!!
On to the topic...
I can't seem to find any pictures of the 5.4L intakes compared to each other (5.4L Truck versus 5.4L van versus 4.6L GT intake). I read that the e-series vans intake is a lower profile than the truck. I have seen a picture of the 4.6L truck manifold compared to the 4.6L mustang intake and the truck intake IS huge. But, can anyone tell me if the 5.4L van intake is indeed lower profile than that of the 5.4L truck? Anyone ever pull their 5.4L from a van?
My idea is this, 5.4L van intake with a plenum adapter to use mustang plenum and tb. I think this would negate the use of those intake adapters that put the fuel into the wrong spot and the cause of turbulence. I'd like to be sure that the van intakes are lower profile first though. Any insight?
TIA
Joey

The van intake manifold is a terrible performing piece of trash. Yes it is lower profile but its far from a good performing intake manifold. If I was doing the 5.4 swap I wouldn't use a truck or van intake at all. They aren't made to make power up high.

If you are looking for a truck intake on the cheap, PM me. I have a few different ones.

Theres a local yard here that charges only 25bucks for an intake manifold, so I doubt I'll be in need of one. I ordered my adapter plates (ebay special Pro Products... $150), but to eventually get rid of these, Im going to look into the differences on these. The van intake with a plenum adapter sounds like a better solution than the intake to head adapters. A plenum adapter would be more like adding a plenum spacer (guess I'll be taking this off my current setup to keep the overall height down).

Also, on a side note. I am using the van oil pan. I have the shortblock attached to the tranny and its sitting inside the car on the mounts without issue. The slight difference is that the drain is on the opposite side. No mods needed.

I would HHIIIIIGGGHHHHLYYYY recomend not using the Van and or Truck intake.
If your that worried about the height of the stock PI intake and adapter plates, take the PI intake somewhere and have them plane a little bit (literally 1/4 or 1/2 in) from where it connects to the heads.
The truck intake will make it feel...well...like a truck. It will fall on its face around 3K RPMS, and be useless down low.

As far as the oilpan (and this is me talking out my rear, im not 100% sure on this), make sure that the oil supply is the same...for some reason i dont think it holds as much oil as a mustang pan, which doesnt matter for a truck/van, but for a mustang thats ridden in the higher RPMS quite often might present a problem

Good idea 1996!!! I am waiting on these plates to show up still, so I will check the depth of that pan today. It may just be a shallow pan and not support the amount of oil needed!!! I never thought about that. Thanks.

So to answer all these questions:

1. Do NOT use a truck or van intake. You're wasting energy there. When you have the bucks you can sell your adapter plates and buy the current HPS intake (if you're on stock heads and cams, this is your best option) or the new 5.4 2v intake that I'm trying to help to get produced (this is for ported head, cammed cars with longtubes and blower/turbo/n2o cars revving over 6000rpm).

2. Oil pan: you can use a stock or stock replacement GT oil pan. I'd recommend getting an 8qt side kickout type (canton, MMR, etc...). Use the oil pickup tube from your 4.6.

3. Truck intake or van intake will **** up your fuel rail options regardless of hood clearance. You have a returnless style fuel system on your 2000 GT, the fuel rails that work on (and came with) 5.4 truck intakes are return style and have an extra hole. So you'd need to really buy aftermarket rails in order to make that work at all. (granted ONE person modified them to be returnless but that's a bitch and requires special skills).

Welcome to the swap. If you have any other questions just post at the end of the sticky at the top of this forum, that's why it's there. At this point I don't expect people to read it or search for specific answers to specific questions, that's not reasonable. Mostly guys just come in and ask and we answer. Even though the same question has been asked 100 times before. It's cool, we stopped tripping about that a long time ago. So, to be clear, post in the sticky, read it at your leisure, welcome to the board and lastly, picsorban
