as cast they outflow any ported PI head as well as 3v and 4v C heads. not only at peak, but throughout the majority of the lift range.

I'd love to pick a set of those up, even if I don't end up going through with the 5.4 swap. Depends on price though. I don't want to spend $2k+ on a new set of heads, no matter how good they are.

 

Are you willing to spend $1800+ to have PI castigns CNC ported? And still not match out of the mold flow capacities?

These heads could drive the cost of CNC porting down. Once a CNC program is written the cost to reproduce the part goes down considerably. Only machine maintenance costs and labor costs become significant.

I called Bob and ordered one. This thing I don't get is that about a month ago when I called, he said they'd have some ready to ship in about 6 weeks. So I waited to order while I got other things prepared. I called today and he said 8 weeks from NOW!! It appears that he's dragging his feet and trying to get an much $ before he orders them up. R3D, I told Bob that you turned me onto the intake. He said to tell you thanks! I just hope I don't get screwed on this deal.

You won't get screwed. HPS has been very easy to deal with.

 

a valid argument. I'd be willing to bet that the price for those new heads will come down as the sales increase as well.

 

My build will be done on a budget, so I'm only going as far as a set of cams. I know that a port would makes the 2v heads flow a lot better, but it's not worth the money IMO. If these heads were ever to get low enough in price, then I would consider buying them.

 

I hate to be the guy that asks for a tl, dr summary but I'm having trouble finding anything about 4v 5.4L's in here. Could someone point me towards it or summarize a bit?

 

Newb to this forum. Started at the first page of this thread and have been reading but i havent seen a 5.4L swap with a procharger yet. I have a 03 GT 4.6 2V and P1SC with 98000 miles and was thinking i needed a rebuild but i want more torque. Anybody done this yet? I know i will have to modify the mount but i am worried about hood clearance with the procharger if it mounts higher. Sorry if this has already been covered.

 

Guys, in the description in the link, it says it will be priced on par w/ P&P heads. Plus, are you guys really telling me you'd sacrifice a ton of power just to save a couple hundred in cash? That's like saying you rather have ported versions of Windsor SBF heads vs. a nice set of AFR 165s or 180s. Or a better comparison is like preferring Windsor heads over Clevelands. I may not have seen or used these heads personally, but these heads will be worth every cent, especially due to the new canted valves.

 

There is alot of info in this whole 170 pages or what ever we are at on the 4v...
The 4v swap will be similar to a 2v swap, only thing is if you are giong from 2v to 4v you have to extend some wires, and switch a few wires.... and some other small things...
Choices from intakes varies all over teh place...

Procharger option... yes some of us have takled about this but it would require bracket to be made... as t 4.6 bracket wont fit.. everything else for teh most parts should work...

Well, I'm looking into doing the swap this January and I'm still looking at options. I've seen a fair bit on the 2v swap and it seems quite straightforward but you just don't get as much power, even with improved heads so I'm looking into the 4v. Unfortunately the only detailed posts I've found is Birdman's description and while he swears it can be easily done using his $2500 kit I'm hoping there's a way to do it without putting $2k into an intake. So, any details on how people dealt with the intake issues?

 

Well, you can use a sullivan intake, you can also use a mach 1 or cobra intake, with adapter plates... or a navi lower with a MMR or any other kind of upper...

there is pretty much your intake options. each has its advantages and dis advantages...

 

Well, that wouldn't be problem since they are suppose to priced on par w/ ported heads.

 

You'll have to have some spacers made for the k-member to drop it 1/2". Call up Maximum Motorsports and see if they'll whittle you out a set. They've made them before.

After that it's basically a standard 4v swap, plus the required exhaust mods.

If one of you guys wants to loan HPS your blower bracket for a couple weeks I'm sure Bob will carve out some mounting plates for 5.4L. I don't have a blower or all you guys would be suckin my cack cuz it'd be ready already. Do I have any volunteers? Bob's said in the past, just get him a bracket and he'll work out the new one for us.

Do I have a procharger volunteer, a vortech volunteer and a paxton volunteer?

I'm planning to put this into my '01 GT so I'm expecting going from 2v to 4v to be a something of a challenge. I don't suppose you could point me to any resources on what that swap entails?

As far as exhaust goes I thought a pair of short tubes could be made to fit?

 

do a search for "4v swap" and you should find a thread that covers the 2v-4v conversion in detail. As far as exhaust, yeah you'll need a set of stock manifolds or shorty headers but you'll still have to mod your mid-pipe a little to match the increased spread. It's sometimes as easy as heating the pipe and bending it a little... most of us will want to cut and weld it so it's just right.

2v -4v is not hard, 5.4 is not hard. Doing them together is only slightly more involved than either by itself. Don't trip. All things only work 1 way.

well if any of you guys are interested in the HPS intake i'm going to sell mine on here only to someone wanting one since i'm going with another intake for the twin turbo. i'm just going to sell it for what i paid since it has an hour of dyno time on it only. i'm only selling it so one of you guys can get yours done. if i don't sell it no biggie i'll save it for my other motor i'm going to build. pm me if your interested and we'll go from there.

Header deal is back underway. I got another BIG NAME company to pick up the torch. It's going to cost me a few hundred bucks more but such is life. You'll all get them cheap and they'll be copies of my super high dollar headers.

Blower brackets will probably be made pretty soon here. I sent Bob a note and asked him to confirm his willingness to play on that. It's probably gunna end up a 200 dollar part or so but it'll botl directly on. )

scratch that, i found a pic of what it looks like...it's not like the 4.6 brackets, this one sticks up like 6 inches above the top of the alternator and uses a seperate belt lol
