I'll have to take a vid of mine and put it up there so all the douches can bag on me for having an ugly motor.

Hey r3dn3ck, since you're the resident expert, Can you throw me some custom cam specs for a NA high compression (11 to 1) 5.4, 5 speed, 3.27 gears, more or less street car but I'm not worried about emissions. I would much appreciate it.

Some wheels are turning in my head! Now that I'm back on my feet, I want to start finishing my projects. I've got another 5.4l to build, and breaking it apart now on the engine stand. My plans for this one will be N/A for my '95 CrownVic.

I will be wanting an intake, an HPS intake. I should have claimed one a while back, but I was in no position to make promises with money.

If anyone has claimed an intake and don't want it let me know. Or when the time comes and someone has bought one and don't want it...let me know!

how about idle quality (major lope, minor lope) and peak tq rpm.

here's a pretty bloody aggressive grind that desktop dyno seems to like:

@.050 numbers .550/.550 238/248 LSA 110, ICL 108, install 4deg retarded. Call Comp and have them grind this on their extreme energy blank. I have true IVO/EVO numbers if they need them. You'll want at least comp's .550 lift valvesprings.

As far as Idle, Major is fine, not like I've got power brakes anyway but as far as peak torque I wanna say 3000-3500 That sound reasonable for a street car? What're the IVO/EVO numbers just in case I need them.

It'll be a pretty ratty idle as there's a lot of overlap (23deg @.050). Peak tq on that cam should come in at 4500-5000rpm. It's a pretty aggressive cam. You can also install it straight up instead of 4deg retarded if you want. It'll have a little better low end that way.

What IVO/EVO do you have? My little dyno sim is showing IVO:11 IVC:47 EVO:56 EVC:12 with the specs you gave me.
and Thanks

I guess I just answered my own question, the curves look pretty good to me, 6k should be plenty for the peak HP and from what I've got its still showing 355ft-lbs at 2k and up to about 400ft-lbs by 3k, I imagine that would be just fine on the street.

I just saw on the karkraft website that they had new complete 5.4 3 valve motors on special for $1995. Figured I would mention it in this thread as it seems like a pretty good deal. It is just too bad there are no simple solutions for a intake manifold and headers for the 3 valave.

all things in time. If the 2v intake sells well enough I may be able to convince HPS to adjust the design for use on a 3v head. It would actually be kinda easy to make one that would allow front side or rear facing TB's too and it'd be based on the existing Hardball'r designs so time to production could be well under a year from the green light. It would have to be a more significant modification than the current 2v swaps are necessitating but the intake would probably fit most 96-08 applications.

Hello
I am a newbie on this site and am sure that this has all been coverd before but am asking anyway
I have a 2000 gt vert that blew a seal in the vortech and hydro lock cyl#3 and just purchased a 2000 lightning motor that I pick up on thursday and am just figuring out how to attack this project

I know that the lightning 5.4 comes with forged piston and crank at 8.5 comp but are the rods any good? How much is this bottom end good for?

Would you use the eaton that comes with it or the v-2 vortech?

What to you guys think this combo with my stage 2 heads will make?

A set of good rods and the vortech would be a monster IMO

I am thinking the vortech is the way I am going as maybe I can fit it all under the stock hood look stock haul *** is how I like it.
then sell the Lightning blower to pay for some of it.

from your response I take it the Lightning rods are not any better as was my hope

4.6 and 5.4 bearings are the same bearings.

Use the centri blower... roots make a lot of tq and we've got plenty of that on motor. The centri blower will definitely be easier to deal with in the long run and turn out better numbers.

Lightnings use the same powdered metal cracked cap rods as any ol f150. They're good to about 450hp then you start seeing big breakages more often. I'd pick up a set of H-beams from TMD on ebay and call it a day. You'll need to have the rotating kit rebalanced but it's worth it. The rest of the L setup is great.

Depending on how you set it up look for 380+ rwhp (8psi) and 425+ rwtq. Ported heads, blower cam, longtubes, etc... all will add to the overall package. For a fully done up car with all the basics like those covered at about stage 2 equivalent... plan on feeding 500hp.

I'd start with 42lbs injectors and a Aviator pump.

I have 2 lightly used 04 cobra fuel pumps... 60 bucks shipped for the pair to any of you swappers.
