no... saleen tried them and they hit. I guess you could modify them but anything short of longtubes is kinda a waste beyond OEM logs... even FRPP shorties are hopeless as far as good power goes. FRPP shorties do bolt directly on though. No hitting.

R3D how in the heck did you get to your header bolts with the motor in, did you use header bolts or the stock studs/nuts? I'm trying to make these headers and keep the bolt holes accessable.

did it with the motor out of the car. If the motor is in the car you can support the engine at the crank and drop the k-member. Plenty of room then.

I've got stock studs on it. Those were another PITA.

before i ask this i know im gonna be loseing power but its only temp. until i finish my forged shortblock.

i was hearing from a guy i know that the stock mach 1 manifolds would work with the 5.4 swap....does anyone know if there is some truth to this cause if so i can get them for free.

also when the time comes does anyone know if the bassani midlengths would work?

mach 1 logs won't work with 2v heads. They will work with 4v heads though. You'll probably have to grind on them a bit to clear some tabs that can rub the frame.

You'll almost certainly have to mod the Bassani mids a bit to make them fit. Fortunately they're a weld up kit last I saw so you'd have that capability.

hey,
just stopping in to sayhi and see what everyone was up to...my block pistons, rods, and crank, and hood, arrive today approximately in about 2 hours... but i am going to be out of town for the next 8 months
so my 5.4 is on hold tell then...

so has anyone started the process for the dual supercharged 5.4.... ive been thinking about it... it would be pretty nasty

If you're going to do the dual compressor route I'd go twin turbo. It takes around 30-60hp or so on average to make 8lbs of boost with a typical blower and that's per compressor. Even if you do get increased power the efficiency goes down with the 2nd parasite pulley. If you use one to feed the other, then things get interesting but the boost values go through the roof and you really kinda need a 4v to make use of it without getting silly on the psi.

That's why I'd do what the old 2-stoke diesels had: a blower and a turbo.

wouldn't it just be better to go with a bigger turbo?

large single turbos tend to have the same ol' lag problems that PD blower guys hate and rightfully belittle them for. Smaller twins will spool up faster and provides packaging options that are nice to have in crowded engine bays. Properly sized twins or a turbo into SC compound setup would spool about as soon as the throttle was opened. A large single turbo at normal boost levels (which basically removes the compound boost setups) will make more peak power than twins but it usually costs something in area under the curve.

is there any way to find a lightning crate engine, instead of just the block?

ebay. It's not a crate engine in this case as ford doesn't sell full blown lightning motors our of the back... it's a take out and ebay or the corral.net forums are your best bet.

right now the fastest NA swap car I know of is a Roush that got the full head/cam/longtube route. He's smokin modded F-bodies. Last I heard that car got sold too... shame.

Any of these jokers that have the lightning swap would probably be 11 second cars pretty easily if they can figure out how to launch it. Mine is the fastest around my town... the only one in my town too.

EDIT: Doing some Drag2003 simulations with my final expected output puts the car at being able to run bottom 11's NA. Add via a 100shot and times drop deep into the 10's. You'll want to make sure your tranny is set up to handle brutal tq.

W00000000000000000h0000000000000000000

Good news boys. The vendor account is setup and I drop my car off on the 29th for the new headers to be created. Once we have them fitted we'll send them off to brandx to have them put into production. The first minimum order is 10 sets so I need to get those serious about longtubes on the list.

Myillwill.... I need to talk to you on phone. Please call me at xxxxxxxxx at your earliest opportunity. The conversation may bring you a bit of $$ and save me a bigass chunk of $$$ as well as shortening the dev time.

Anyone that has completed longtubes on their car, please call me as well and post up here. If you don't want to eat the long distance then PM me your number and a good time to call and I'll call you on my dime.

I'm really counting on you guys for the info and any help you can provide on this bit. There's only so much I can afford to do on my own (I have to pay for this whole header development process out of my pocket) and I'll never get any of it back... so it's about equal to me buying the worlds most expensive set of headers.

R3D, what is going to be the going rate for the longtubes? Thanks for the info.

I couldn't even begin to speculate on retail price. They're a limited production item in any case so I'm going to end up putting together a GP for the initial run which should help. The manufacturer is top shelf too which helps quality a lot but not so much price in theory.

if you think about what it would cost to have a nice set custom made for a 5.4( around 1k), then anything under that by a couple hundred will be awesome...
