Default street gearing.

i got some work done on my tranny 97 auto...when i asked about putting in 4:10 gears fromford racing he said that he does not recommend them because they are soft and are really only benificial for the track. he said they will not last as long and will become loud after a while.what do you think? he make he suggested was Yukon.

Not at all. 4.10s are quite streetable and mine havnt whined at all. So long as they are put in by a competant installer, they will be fine. I would suggest FRPP or Movite personally, so long as the person knows how to install them.

yeah.. I have 4.10s in my car and I drive it either day either to work or to school, and they make absolutely no noise and they shouldn't unless there's a problem

Even the guys from 5.0 mag or MMFF, suggests either 3.73 or 4.10's for automatics, But i would go with 4.10's. They are reliable and you'll need a little more for you auto. I had 4.10's in my 95 GT, though 5 speed, i never had a problem and wouldn't of had it any other way. My saleen has 3.73's, but i bought it that way, i would have done 4.10's for it also.

You know what I would do if a mechanic told me that?

Find a different one!

Seriously, that guy does not know Mustangs and is making a gross generalization.

Hell you need all the gear you can get with a 97 auto. Have you done a pi swap? I convinced my buddy with a 98 auto vert to go all out and put some 4.30's on his car. He said he couldn't be happier.

I find it funny how people still cant decide between 3.73s and 4.10s. They DO make a 3.90 you know. lol

3.90's are for guys who are into dirty blondes. You know, they can't tell if they like blondes of brunettes.
