Default Mach Shaker Install Questions

Hey guys,

Well Ive decided that I want to add the Mach Shaker System on my car, because I love the way it looks on Mach 1's, and am tired of telling people my hood scoop is non functional. The price is pretty good, but am I lookin at any horsepower gain?? Also, has anyone done this, or would I need to take it to a shop. If anybody has knowledge of this please let me know. P.S. Does anybody know where to get the Mach 1 hood, because I dont want to tear up my stock hood? Thanks.

It's doubtfull that you will pick up any HP.The Mach 1 shaker feeds into the same airbox that you have now.I have never seen a direct replacement Mach 1 hood for sale in the aftermarket.I would say it's strictly an OEM part. You can take the old scoop off and fill the holes, but you would need to repaint.I've thought of doing this myself.

No HP gain, but it will look awesome!!! I am thinking about one too. I saw one on a red 'stang like ours, and he left the piece on the hood black and it looked really good.

well, you wont get any HP increases on the dyno but with ram air there will be a slight pickup after you really get going, i think it become functional at 65... Im sure you all know of the CDC kit that utilizes your stock hood and includes all the extra stuff, and a plastic piece that is black so you dont see any of the holes or anything and adds to the mach 1 look, can be painted if desired, they even make it for 96-98 GT mustangs!

Ghostalker hit the nail on the head! I love that shaker but for $800 or so, it's a hard thing for me to do for only a few ponies. If you like...go for it...and then take lots of pictures for us to oogle over.

Yeah, CDC can be abit high in their prices, check out this little number>

Personally i dont like them that much to begin with, and for 395 dollars i dont see them in my future, i payed roughly 25 dollars for my foglights at autozone and hell they look great! so what if they brake or burn out, i can just replace them for nothing! lol :usa2:

There is also a company that sells the OEM mach 1 scoop, piping, etc with a custom bracketry to install it on a GT engine. You then have to buy an OEM mach 1 hood. The kit is right around $500-600. Then you have to get the hood. So its more $$ than the CDC kit but looks better than the plastic trim applique.

I dont remember the company off hand unfortunatly.

From what I've read, you do pick up a ram-air effect at 80+ mph, so performance above that number should benefit somewhat. But let's be honest, it's getting to see the engine torque make the engine twist in it's mounts is what's sexy!
