question about 410 gears

why is it so hard to get past raise your speed once you hit 100 mph. That's about how fast i usually get to whenever I try to max the car out, I think the fastest for me was a little under 110. =/

ive seen 4.10s pull right up to 130 mph. by the way your car is really nice.

In 5th gear im probably at around 2500-3500 when im hittin 110, how much will the gears affect my RPM's? I also heard that you shouldmn't go with 4.10's if you plan on adding a supercharger, anyone know why?

4.10s with a sc will make your car rev to quick. http://www.tchracing.com/tech/gearcalc.php here is a web sight that will let you tell what rpm you will rev at with certain gears and tires. very help full.

As a newbie to the Mustang world (just picked-up an '04 GT Conv.), I can't give you any technical insight on the 4.10's. What I can tell you is that I had 4.11's in my Vette, and while granted it's a much different car overall, I wouldn't make the switch again unless I planned on spending alot more time at the strip. A two hour ride to the Jersey shore with that rear end was almost unbearable on the highway. However, from light to light on the street, the car screamed! Just my opinion based on whether you want overall ride quality or pure muscle. Later.

My unscientific poll discovered this fact after extensive research:

For an N/A car, 80% of all guys who have 4.10's, never look back. 15% wish they had gone with 4.30's and 5% think it is too much gear.

When 3.73 are chosen, 60% wish they had gone with 4.10's. Of these, about 50% will actually get 4.10's later. 30% like them and the remaining 10% are just ok with them.

I assume, by unbearable, you mean that it whined. A notorious problem with GM's 7.5 inch rear end. No whine in my 8.8!

I run 4.30's in a daily driven automatic. If the gears are installed correctly there is no whine at all. Mine make no noise except the sound of burning rubber when I get a little to heavy footed. The gears did not cost me as much in fuel mileage as my torque converter did. My suggestion would be to get a tune to correct the speedo on a automatic car. The gear change will confuse the computer and cause it to shift early. Also I trap 107 in third with mine at 6200 rpm.

I got my gears done at one of our Ford dealers and there is absolutely no whine at all. Just don't cheap out on the install of gears and you should be okay. At least make sure they warranty the work so if you have a problem you can get it taken car of.

The noise was actually not an issue. It was just that that there was no "middle ground" when it came to hitting the pedal. It was always *****-out. Granted it was a four speed. But it just behaved completely like a strip car. Maybe I'm getting old, but I like a balance between speed and ride quality. I don't want to drag for 120 miles at a time. Damn, I am getting old.

I don't know about the correct RPM@speed calculated on that TCH Racing link. I mean, I bet they are pretty darn close but I can only hit 130mph in 4th on my 5 speed and I've tried it a couple times now. It's all stock. It says I'd be at 5,564 when in reality I had to shift into 5th gear at 5,900 or so@130. Just FYI.

Yeh, I hear ya about the old thing. But on my 5-speed, the only gear it gets quick-drag-strip-*****-out in is 1st, cause it is such a loooowww gear to begin with. If I don't wanna deal with it winding to red-line in .6 seconds, I start the car from a dead stop in 2nd gear, which I actually do most of the time in normal commute driving. Then there is very little normal acceleration difference. I had my gears installed by a Ford Racing SVT dealer, and it NEVER whines. The great thing is, when I do want to be quick-drag-strip-*****-out, it's there for me. Gotta say I love the 4:10 gearing!

Does anyone know if you can actually get grip all the way through 1st with 4.10s with stock tires or will it break loose out of nowhere? I'm not talking about a hard launch just a normal take off then gunned.. How about 3.73s? I want some acelleration above 60mph, but I still want to be able to give it what for in 1st without spinning.

I don't know if my input would help but my friend just had 4.10 gears installed and even when he downshifts from 3rd to 2nd and guns it his tires burn out. He is running stock tires but he needs to change them soon but doesn't have money to.

Fageddaboutit, no grip in first gear with the stock tires if you stick your foot in it at any point, in any manner.

My 4.30's took a while to get used to. I had 3.73's prior to the 4.30's. I was driving in snow this week with 4.30's and a 3500 stall speed converter, lol. I really is not that bad once you get used to them. If you plan on racing at the track then 4.10's are great for a 5 speed car. You just have to learn to keep your foot out of it on the street.
