Default Man, Mac Straight Shot, Densecahrger, WMS Which cold air kit

Hi guys, wondering if any of you have any of these setups

mac 85mm straight shot

densecahrger- long CAI or short ram (also has optional 95mm meter)

WMS Intake with 95mm meter

As of right now I have a mac CAi and pro m 85mm meter. I can't stand the mac unit as it heats up so much. I was wondering what your takes are on these intakes, I really need one and want to get hte most for my buck I know I don't need a maf, ect ect but if it's worth 10rwhp so be it. I wold like cooling to be better. I will sell my pro m 85mm and my mac cai if enough people agree with me. I am aslo wondering I HAVE READ THAT THE FENDERWELL KITS causes surges/spiking I was told to go with a ram intake to keep the flow as straight as possible is this true? I need your help tuners!! I would liek to buy an intake by the end of next wee. Please help
thanks!
Brett

i've got the WMS Racing Velocity Intake kit (minus the MAF meter.) And i'm pleased with the overall fit and performance. No dyno results before/after the intake, but very quality piece. If not WMS, i've heard great things about JLT True Cold Air intakes...but these are the only 2 that i would purchase.

MAC and BBK Intakes are crap.

That's all for now, good luck with your decision,

Sell it, and buy a stock MAF and a K&N filter. Youll be good to go.

I have thought about not using a MAF but have seen power gains from them in the dyno book at Street Stuff. I wish I knew somene here in illinois with longtubes and cams that actually passed emissions. It would open up another world to me oh well,

Most guys around here use the stock inlet, aftermarket plenums and throttle bodies, stock meter and open k&n I was told the fenderwell kits cause MAF problems on some cars-is that true?

Hey Lightning, can u send pics of your WMS kit? I pretty much decided between densecharger upper pipe, wms, anderson powerpipe but I don't think any will work if I get a procharger or a vortech next month . If any reading have a nice 4.6 setup with pics please send them

I appreciate all the feedbak from this site, hoping to get some closure on this cold air/maf project.

Yes, it will mess with your a/f ratio because of the bend before the maf.

The only reason aftermarket MAF's make HP is because they sandblast the wire to run the motor lean, nothing more. Getting a dyno tune, which is oh so critical to making HP, can do the exact same thing. There tend to be tuneability problems with the signals from the aftermarket (Pro-M, and other's) and it's just not worth it.

Stick with Ford MAFs, or SCT Big Air meters...both utilize top quality and no cheesy MAF Transfer function alterations.

I'll see if I can find a pic, I got mine ceramic coated.

I have that same intake and mine doesnt cause any problems. I have tested the car with stock intake for a couple of days then I tried out the MAC cold air. The MAC definately gave better response and the Diablo showed lower intake temperatures. The bend before the MAF isnt gonna hurt anything. I took my car out to the track bone stock and it ran a 14.20 then I took it with the CAI and it ran a 14.10. If there was trouble with the MAF, I dont think the car would have run faster than it did before. Yea the metal piping does get hot when you let the car sit for a minute, but that hardly affects performance. Heat soak only lasts a couple of seconds if that. The rush of intake air wont be affected by the hot piping. This has been proven before. I will try to find the link that I found that study on later. I hope you arent trying to gain horsepower by switching from a metal CAI to a Plastic one.....
Im not trying to be an a$$, im really just trying to help you out. Without major headwork (porting, polishing, etc.) your probably not going to gain more than 1 or 2 horsepower with the JLT. I know alot of people will dissagree with me about this, but I have taken the CAI to the track and ran the car. I didnt just read about what they supposedly do.

I had the MAC fenderwell type and switched to the STEEDA cause I got a good deal on it! but i did take mine to the Dyno with the MAC and it ran very lean N/A and on the Juice. I bought my MAC 4yrs ago and never had any problems with it besides that the tube really got HOT. I went with eveyones guidance that Cool air from the fender, cars ran better but Honestly, I like the straight shot design or filter in the engine bay like STEEDA, JLT, MAC etc; a lot better. I havent dynoed it but it definetly ran better at the track. I dropped 2 tenths and got 2 mph more I did remove the Headlight for the first time also to get that Ram-Air effect so i cant say if thats what really helped.
