Default Transmission Upgrading Advice

I have a 2004 Mach 1 and have gone through three tansmissions. The last one lasted three days and all I did was a pull up to 120. I need something beefier that won't cost too much to buy and install. I'm on a college student's budget. Any ideas?

Like what transmission do people usually upgrade to with these cars?

You're doing something wrong if you've gone through 3 trannies on that thing.

T-56 or T-56 Magnum (TR6060). Only manual I'd ever buy.

It's been a bit of bad luck. I bottomed out one night and that cracked the first one, then I got run off the road and that cracked the second one. This last one just cracked when I was doing a pull. I only got to maybe 120.

Aren't those 6-speeds? I was hoping to stick with a 5-speed for ease, but if it's not too complicated, that would be great.

Nothing complicated about it. New transmission, new driveshaft, and a shifter. Ta-da!!!!

6-speeds of sex and glory!

Well, I can't promise the sex thing......or the glory either, actually. **** it.

Sounds like you have driving issues and not transmission issues, thats like saying that my fenders keep failing off............when I hit that tree at the end of the driveway!

GT: I'm definitely looking into that.

Tuff: I actually partially agree with you. I got run off the road once and that broke one of them. The other broke when I bottomed out one night in a construction area. But this recent one just cracked for no apparent reason.

They dont just crack without a reason. They're all aluminum, so buying a beefed up trans isnt going to stop the case from taking a **** on you. Drive better? Check your mount(s)?
