Default upgrading exhaust

I'm replacing the bbk shorties with some Mac long tubes, and getting either a catted pro chamber or catted h pipe. I have a 2000 auto, would there be fitting issues with the auto? Anybody have the mac long tube that i can get some info from??

I think you'll be good. But, email MAC and ask them. Thats what I'd do.

actually i changed around the words on my search and found that there are a few of us with MAC long tubes installed and no problems. Sorry for the pointless thread...

Mac long tubes with either the catted H or procchamber is fine on autos. I ran both the Mac catted and o/r H on my auto. My buddy had the LT's with the prochamber, didnt really like the way that sounded.

I recommend going with the catted H.

Yeah im going with the catted H, but i will need to get extenders for the sensors right?

Ok, so i bought the headers and they are coming with "O2 bosses" what are those? Is that the eliminator? I have shorty headers on now, so i DO have the sensors, would taking them off for the long tubes be bad? As soon as everything gets on im going to get it tuned so i should be ok right?

it means it has the spots for the 02 sensors to go in, thats what 02 bosses are. You will need to either extend the 02 wires which is just a matter of adding some wire to 5 wires or buy extenders for 50bucks or whatever they go for now. And you can certainly reuse your o2 sensors you have now as long as they work its fine.

So either splice the wires now to extend them or just buy extenders...i think i will go with the extenders. Splicing degrades the quality...especially out here in iraq, we splice everything as a temporary fix, but doesnt last long...lol Can you hook me up with a link for the extenders please, these filters limit internet "surfability".

Lengthening them wont affect how they work if you use the correct gauge wire and connections, but its your choice. I wouldn't spend 50-60bucks on something i did for $5 worth of wire and some soldering. You can find extenders all over at steeda, bbk,i think americanmuscle.com sells them too.

what is a MIL eliminator exactly? Will i need that or a 02 extender? If i pick either one when i get the car tuned they can tune it for whatever i pick right? which do you guys reccomend? I will be installing MAC long tubes and a high flow catted MAC H-pipe.

The reason you need to extend the wires is when you get long tube headers it moves the o2 sensor location farther down away from where the stock manifold have them. You will either need to buy extensions or do it yourself. Meaning cutting the wires adding some wire to make them longer. Its pretty easy to do, but if you dont like electrical stuff dont worry just buy them.

The MILs aka Malfunction indicator light (dont ask me why they named them this) are used to fool the computer into thinking you have cats when you dont. There only go on the back o2 sensors. However if you get a tune or have one etc.. you dont need them as you can use the tuner or chip to turn off the rear o2 sensors.

Ok. So i'm going to try and match up the gauge of the wire and just splice it. Copper would be the way to go right? Would i HAVE to solder it? I have a few fellow Marines in the shop that are the solder kings so i could get some help there. Somehow i need to find the manual that might list the guage of the wire unless someone on here knows. Thanks for the help spike! I'm getting excited about coming home and putting everything in MYSELF..

From what i remember it was around 14gauge wire and i soldered the connections and all is well. Its just like adding wire to anything else.

so go with copper though? After soldering do i just wrap it with electrical tape and it will be fine? I'll just extend it myself, we have a car lift on base which will make it all easier.

one more thing, it says the long tubes come with a "air tube". What is an air tube?

Don't ever use electrical wrap for things like this only use heat shrink. The e-tape will come off and unravel after a little water/heat gets to it. Thats a no no. Use whatever decent wire you have (speaker wire is no decent).

Dans got ya its for the EGR and you can hook it up or toss it. If you do get rid of it it will drop your mileage and will make the motor run a tad hotter. On the good side no more egr crap to fail, no more carbon in the intake manifold etc... and also you get to get alot of **** out of the engine bay.

how does the egr work? Where does it hook up to the header at? What is heat shrink?

The egr stands for Exhaust gas recirculation, basically the car sucks in burnt exhaust from the header form that port your header will have and this cools the intake charge and cant be reburnt so that air doesn't get fuel added and helps with mileage also this also all only happens at part throttle it also helps with emissions. You will see on the header it has a port where the stock EGR tube from the stock headers is attached to.

Heat shrink is a cover for wiring that once you slide it over the open wire and apply heat like a lighter etc.. it shrinks and covers the open wire. Any store that has wiring stuff will have it home depot etc....

well i will keep the egr because eventaully emissions will become an issue. I dont need any kind of extender for the egr tube? Well im glad you said something about the heat shrink, i would have just used ol electric tape. Thanks for the info gents!!

From what i remember you will have to make the stock one work meaning bend it some. But thats what you use the stock EGR tube.
