gas leak where fill tube meets gas tank

Default gas leak where fill tube meets gas tank

i got a 2000 gt and the rubber gasket where the fill tube meets the gas tank has gone bad and it leaks gas, how do i go about replacing it? do i have to drop the gas tank?

Yeah you'll have to drop the tank and slide the filler tube out and then pop out the rubber grommet. I just had the tank down last week to install a fuel pump. Pretty easy to do and you should be able to get that grommet from Ford.

I had the same damn thing happen to me I was filling up went to walk in and pay to see ALL my gas pour out onto the ground i was so pissed i took it right away to the dealer he said the parts the grommet was like ten and the filler pipe (was rusted) and a new one was 189 i have yet to get them due to lack of funds but he said if i keep it under half of a tank it should not leak

It won't leak if it's a little under full. Mine's leaking too, which I shouldn't be surprised since I notice the rubber grommet was ripped when I replaced the fuel pump. Oh well, just something to fix later. Mine only leaked when I filled the tank, and then after driving it about 30 miles or so, it stopped.

Just make sure you lube the seal up before sliding the filler neck back in to avoid ripping the new one. Wait until your almost out of gas and it's a lot easier. Takes ten minutes to do lying on your back.

Yup, plus it makes it much easier to slide it back in. The filler neck looks like a giant dong sliding into the hole. hahaha

so did anyone have to drop the tank to replace the seal for the gas tank
