Internals and poss 5.0
I have a 2000 mustang gt with 4.6l. I was wondering what the stock crank is good for hp wise. I am setting the car up for nitrous ending up with around 150 shot. I will be getting forged rods and pistons but was wondering if the stock crank will hold up to 500 at the most. My second question is, while the engine is apart should i upgrade to the 5.0 stroker kit for the 4.6. I have researched and found that .20 is all that the block should be bored because of thin casting. Is this all true and will that kit be well with nitrous. Hopefully someone has some infomation on this and maybe any numbers with the 5.0 stroker would be great. Thanks for the help!

That was part of his second question. His first was whether or not the stock crank would handle it, since he just planned on upgrading the rods and pistons.

The stock cast GT crank is safe for around 600hp. More then that and you want to get the forged cobra crank instead. I don't know if the car is your daily driver or what total plans you have for the car. But there are a good number of guys who do 150hits on the stock motor with fuel upgrades and a tune of course. So if you are adventures and can take the risk, it can be done on a stock motor. I have hit my car with a 150hit a few times.

Your crank will be fine. Get h-series bearings and a good balance job. The 5.0 is great for adding some low end grunt but don't count on any real hp gains without improving the heads. I would say that .020 over is plenty but .030 is out there. I did .020.
