I have a 99 GT. My gas tank is leaking, so while I have it down I'd like to upgrade to the Focus fuel pump. I have a 100 wet shot of nitrous, so this would be a nice insurance policy against going lean(I hope). Anyways, what pump is this? What model/year focus do I need? Is it a direct replacement? Do I need anything for the install(gasket, fuel sock/strainer?). Thanks

 

Its not the regular Fous fuel pump. Doing that would result in a lot less fuel, lol. You need the SVT Focus fuel pump this pump flow 210lph and will be more then enough to feed a 100shot on your car. They are from the 01-04 SVT Focus cars.

Its one of the first things I did before I ever put a nitrous kit on my car. It will help recover from the lean spike, which is nice. But a good tuner should be able to pretty much tame that lean spike down. Its a straight pump swap. You just take the fuel pump out of the canistar it comes in for the Focus and swap it into your stock GT's setup in place of that stock fuel pump.

Thanks Spike. Do I have to get this from a Ford dealer, or can I get at CarQuest(or any auto store)? Will I need a fuel sock(strainer/filter) too? or any gaskets or grommets to make the install easier(incase any of the old stuff is brittle)?

 

I would not get one from autozone etc... no telling what those are actully going to flow fuel wise. Just search for the best deal on one online.

 

i never really had any problems with stuff from autozone, is there a specific reason you guys seem to bash everything from there???

 

They get their parts made super cheap from overseas. No telling if a pump from them is actually going to flow 210lph like it should or if they just sell one pump for all the Focus cars because they don't know better.
