Default transmission...

I have a 2003 gt. 50k miles on tranny and engine. My dad recently noticed my tranny was leaking fluid so we proceeded to check the dipstick. It was dark colored and smelt burnt. Obviously thats bad, so my question is, what exactly do i have to get fixed, and how much will it cost? How much will my fluids cost to replace, and how much will the broken seal or whatever is causing the leak cost? Will those two fixes solve my problem or will there have to be more invasive transmission surgery?

is it normal for it to leak if the problem is that minor? and if the liquid was shot would it be normal for me to feel my tranny clunk a little every now and then when i feel the car shift gears? I just want to make sure i didnt bone the whole transmission or something terrible.

Can't tell you what seal without knowing where the leak is coming from. So you need to get under the car and see where its leaking from. If the fluid is burnt, then yes you really need to change it asap. Its about 8-9 quarts just doing the dropping the pan and swapping filter fluid change. You should be changing tranny fluid every 25k to 30k miles. That fluid is basically the life blood of your tranny.

i took it to my mechanic today and he was nice enough to fix the leak for free. The fluid was leaking from a little bolt on the upperside of the tranny. He said some "line" was connected to it, but i forgot the name. Anyways he cleaned it off, removed the bolt, silicone'd it up, and stuck it back in there. Now all i have to do is get the fluid changed

I don't know how mechanical you are, but changing tranny fluid is a simple and pretty easy thing to do. Regardless you need to replace the filter and fluid asap if its that dark and smells burned.
