Default weird spooling noise in engine

recently ive been noticing a weird, squeaky, spooling noise in my engine. Its pretty faint, and you cant really hear it unless the car is idle and your right next to it. However, it annoys me. It sounds like a cricket almost, just chirping a lot faster. Im guessing it has to do with the cold weather, because its only been occurring recently and when i look under the hood it looks like its coming from a belt. I was just wondering if this is normal or if i should get it checked out?

It may be tensiond incorrectly or you may just need to use some spray to stop the squeal

Don't use wd40 any auto parts store should have a spray for belts that will stop the squeal if the sound comes back you may need a new belt

cool thanks a lot. I can just spray it directly on the belt right? Should my car be on so it spins around and slops all over or should I just spray it in there when its off?

I thinks it's fine to do it when it's on but the kind you buy should have instructions on the bottle

if it only happens on cold startups and goes away after a few minutes than you have a pulley thats failing....and no i cant tell you which one it is, thats for you to figure out.

a trick to find out if its the belt or not is to use a bar of soap and with the car running rest the bar of soap on the smooth side of the belt. if the squeak goes away than you found your problem.

hmm also sometimes when i really get on it, and my cars not warmed up completely i hear what sounds like a belt slip. The noise lasts only about 2 seconds but i dont like the sounds of it. At first i thought it may be the intake sucking in air but it seems like its probably the belt since im experiencing squealing now. Do you guys think its still the belt or the pulley?

Did you put it on both sides of the belt?

no I put it on the underside of the belt, which the instructions said to do. Even the mechanic i take my car to said it was crap, so oh well. All is good now it was worth the extra money to just get a new belt.

I put a supercharger on your car when your weren't looking...haha. but seriously an old trick I still use for belt squeals put a little RTV silicone on both sides of the belt and start your car. you will never hear it squeal again. plus it won't slip because it rubber and sticky. Try it, it works
