Default Anyone done a 6 to an 8 swap?Help?

K before i go waste an afternoon pulling bundled wire from a junked gt i wanna KNOW if im gonna need a gt ecu(and harness) to do this swap. (jumping to a 2v 5.4l btw)it seems to be the consensus that i will, no 100% positive answers though. im already in the hole a few hundred bucks, and im paying off the engine and transmission this weekend so this is happening if i have to buy a gt and do the swap with it(but i would really hate to).

It would be easier and cheaper to trade your car for a GT.......for the most part anyway, if this is something you want to do for a fun weekend or two project....by all means go for it.~

Ive done it and it is fairly straight forward. If you check out 3.8mustang.com/forum .... A friend and I made write up for the 3.8l to 4.6l swap. Its basically the exact same setup, swap wise.

Its not hard, but it taks time having to re-wire, and swap in the upgrade parts. K-member doesnt have to change either(which is a plus). I also had to change from auto to 5speed whih added another PITA step or 2.

We got the actual 5.4l motor installed and running in 1 twelve hour day. A total of 14hours after exhaust work.

If you have any straight forward questions just shoot me a PM.

I came across a company that is selling ZERO mile 2004 4.6L GT engines, with transmissions, ECU, harnesses, CAI's, everything to do a swap. The engines were for a project Roush was doing that never happened. I think they were $4500.00 complete.

Ive done several V8 swaps, and unless you have a donor car your much better off cheaper and hassle wise to trade for a GT. Otherwise if your doing this for the heck of it, then id call up mpssalvage.com at 770-867-2644 and they can give you a pakage deal with everything you need. A donor car would most definally be a plus. Being its a 3.8, i figured you had to change the K-member to because it would maybe only bolt to a 3.8 and 5.0? Ive changed a 95 V6 to a 5.0 and just changed the mounts, but if the newer 3.8's are the same as the 94-95 then you would have to change to a 4.6 member because there not same as 5.0's. kmembers.. hope that made sense. lol. good luck and keep us posted.

i dont think a donor car would be cost effective though, i already have engine and transmission waiting to be rebuilt, a rear end and driveshaft are in the works, and i got a hydroboost setup too.

next im gonna concentrait on getting an ecu, wiring harness, gauges, and ignition with keys to match do you think this mpssalvage could get me those all from the same car, would save me the hassle.

Oh and i already did the research new edge mustangs all have the same k member so i dont need a new one but i probably will put in a nice trangulated tube k member anyway. most likly ill just buy a prefabed one or have one custom made i can weld i just dont trust my welding THAT much

thanks though im glad im getting some imput back i wanna make sure i have all the bases covered before i begin this project and you guys have been a big help
