Default New Exhaust

So i've got a 2000 GT, and I have a basic knowledge of engine components and little knowledge of exhaust systems. Anyway, so the stock exhaust on the car does not sound very good and I'm looking for a low-priced basic add-on or mod to make it sound ballsier... some guys around here like to just cut the muffler off and give 'em straight pipes but i don't want to go that route... Any suggestions?

I've got regular magnaflows. Quieter than most at idle and daily driving...also they don't drone at higher cruising speeds like flowmasters.

Go to you tube or something and check out videos of mustang exhaust, they may be able to point you in the direction you're looking for after a few recommendations from us.

My regular Magnaflows drone between 1800 and 2100 under load, going up a hill etc.
Nothing like Flowmasters though.

Also I have a convertible so everything is louder due to the open space in the back where the top lives.

I love the Magnaflows though.
Nice and mellow but they will bark when you want them to.
Just the right combination for me.

I'm using the stock H-pipe etc.

+1. Same setup here. I love it and get a lot of compliments on the sound.

Eventually I want to add MAC LT headers with a shorty h-pipe for a meaner tone... but the Magnaflows are definitely a great place to start on a stock exhaust.

+1 again on the regular Mangnaflow cat back and stock H-pipe. It won;t rattle your brain while crusing down the freeway but will give a nice sound when you step on it.
sound really good outside the car also

If you guys think it sounds good with stock manifolds get some longtubes! It sounds 100% better.

I have borla and they are killer! Extremely throaty and loud but not of the annoying type...

i have 40 series flow's with pypes x pipe. sounds good. on a modular motor you have to have some back pressure to make horsepower. case in point i had a big hole in one of my mufflers and i lost back pressure and horses , when i replaced it , the power came back.

FRPP GT and x pipe conversion kit on 07 GT/CS.

Sound is much better than stock, or the flowmasters I had on the car before.

so another question of curiousity... other than the obvious structural differences... what are the biggest differences between x-pipes and h-pipes?

i'd go with an X-Pipe. how much are you willing to spend? you could get this setup. sounds badass to me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHdm15IDMww SLP o/r x with loudmouth 2 catback. if i get a GT im def. going with that setup!

X produces more power but the power difference is so small that it doesn't matter. So, pick one based on sound. Personally, I prefer the H-pipe since I hate the smoothness of the X and the fact that the H-pipe gives you that muscle car sound.

I have a fondness for the sound of magnaflow and borla mufflers As for H/X... doesn't bloody matter so if you like a little more rumble go H, if you want a smoother growl X. Either way, at least make sure if you replace your stock H-pipe to get a catted replacement. High flow cats don't cost enough in HP to justify not using them.

I have a bassani X and Borla XP's with turndowns. It's quite loud outside. Not so bad inside.
