Default been a while

I haven't been on here in a while. The mutt has been on jackstands in the garage since spring when I blew the engine and my new shortblock will ship on monday.

forged rotating assembly (kellogg crank, manley rods, diamond pistons, 18cc dish) in a teksid block

the shortblock is assembled and I will be bolting on my heads with crower stage 2 blower cams. I've got the 8 rib upgrade kit from vortech along with the mini race bypass valve. On top of that will be a snow performance kit and 1 size smaller blower pulley

Behind it is a TKO 500 tranny with an aluminum frpp driveshaft.

supplying the fuel is an 03 cobra fuel tank and pumps and 60 lb fuel injectors. SCT big air MAF reading the incoming and a wideband commander reading the outgoing air through some new mac longtubes.

should be a bit of a power increase....

made some good progress tonight.

I got the head gaskets today so I bolted the heads on and attached the cam sprockets (cams were already on the heads)

time to start putting on the timing set!. I had marked it in some spots with a sharpie so re-installed it to those marks using some of my original chain guides and some that were sent along with the engine

Then it was on to play with degreeing the cams. I put the degree wheel and pointer on and found TDC using a wooden dowel and dial gauge. I do believe I might have lost TDC trying to turn it backwards (loosened the bolt) I'll see if I can fix that before I get back to degreeing the cams.

Then I stuck the valve covers on to keep stuff clean and put the bag back over it before putting it to bed for the night

I worked on it some more today, degreed the cams and found that the driver side was off by a link. It took a while to get that right but I finally got it. My solid lifter decided to compress when I tried to put the rocker on so I did it with a bled hydraulic lifter to be sure I'm in the ballpark.

then I found that there were some ribs on the timing cover that wanted to co-exist in the same space as one of the chain guides so I had to do some trimming on the cover before bolting it on, I think that the timing cover seal will have to be replaced though as the one the shop put on looks different then the one I have. But it does also look like the seal that was on this timing cover originally so maybe it will work. Anyway, here are a few pictures:
