I bought an 07 GT and installed some Flow Masters (40 series) on it no problem. I decided to go with the series 63 (?) K&N cold air intake system next. The directions were a little sketchy but I made it through with but one major error. I started it without plugging the cannon plug in right at the intake plenum (mass air, throttle body??????) Needless to say it was immediately noticeable with a very rough idle. I attempted to drive it and there was virtually no throttle response at all. I idled around a very small block before returning home and discovering my mistake.
After plugging in the final cannon plug it once again ran like a champ, no rough idle smooth acceleration etc. The only thing is that the check engine light is on (little lighted engine figure in lower left corner of display). My question (finally) is did I mess something up or is that simply due to the difference in air restriction and therefore running leaner? What should I do?

 

You need a tune.

 

Thanks guy, is it something I can get away with for a little while or should it happen right away? I'm assuming that buying a new programmer wont do the trick?

 

Not all intakes for the 05+ cars require a tune, only the good ones that flow alot more air do. You can reset the ECU by unhooking the batter and turning on your headlights for 5-10mins. then hook up the battery and you will have cleared the codes.

 

I'll give that a try but now I almost hope it wont clear. I want to know I have a good one ha ha ha. Hey I just found out that my ring gear is a 311!!!!! What the hell is that all about????????? I thought it was awfully fast on the top end and really disliked the drag in how fast it reve'd but 311????? Why the hell would they do that?

you should beable to just erase the code you set and it will be fine.....go to a dealership and ask them to erase your code....or find somebody with a tuner, SCT or diablosport, casue you can read and clear DTCs with those.

 

You just tripped a code in error. Disconnect the battery etc... and it will go away. If it comes back, then you have another problem or need a tune. As far as the CIA requiring a tune, I am not sure. Many do for these cars.

Do you mean that you have 3.11 gears in your car? Confused....

 

i've never heard of getting a tune for aftermarket intake and exhaust, you can go to autozone or some other autoparts store and they can erase the codes too, for no charge as well

 

Thanks guys, I disconnected the Battery for 10 min and put it back. It cleared on its own. My next planned mod is to put in 3.73 gears, programmer (not sure which) and have it dyno tuned. Whats a decent price for something like that?
