First thing is first why did the motor blow, what power adder, and what kind of budget do you have to work with?

I feel your pain. What kind of budget are you looking at?

This is the guy that built my engine, you can use his site for price comparison, or even order a short/long block from him:

http://www.promodularperformance.com/1996-2007.htm

I did a short block with upgrades - $4,600
Bought a set of P&P Heads, machined, valve job, installed - $2,000
Bought a Bullitt intake, installed - $1,000
New Alternator and AC compressor - $500

So, about $8,000 into the motor...

Another $2,500 for brakes, gears, springs, SFCs, C/C plates, strut tower brace, shocks/struts, x-pipe and exhaust

$500 for dyno tuning and SCT chip

$2,000 for wheels, tires, tint, grill delete, chin spoiler, antenna

OMFG, I think I'm going to have a heart attack...

machnjo, your mach is pure sex, if that makes you feel better

and for the blown motor....if the car isn't a DD then just start saving and planning a engine build

Whats salvagable from your old engine? Your options are pretty wide open. First thing to decide is what are your plans for the car; dd, drag car, autox car. Do you want to make it a 2v, 3v, 4v? If you want to do the 5.4 swap, there's a great sticky thread for that with alot of info and you can get a parts list from the guys in there. If your gonna keep the vortech, plan on building a forged engine to reduce the chance of blowing it. That would be forged crank (Cobra Crank is good), forged rod and pistons. Turn key 32v Mach 1 engines run around $6,500 or so.

With my GT, I didn't really plan it out too well and therefore the cost keeps going up. For 7 grand, you can certainly build a nice, strong engine and have it installed. My best advice would be to do quite a bit of research. Check with your local shops, search the intawebtingy, and figure out what kind of engine you want. The more powerful the engine, the more money you'll spend.

wanna buy mine off me? i was going to try and swap jareds98 for install on my engine but I can't manage to get the details to line up (my schedule is a bitch). If I sell it outright that'll finish financing my swap and we both end up winners and I can do my 5.4 install in my own time. Talk to me... PM is best or you can search for my number and gimme a call.

i'll cut you a good deal.

I think I can solve 2 problems.

CPThowdy... come over to my place and pick up my spare shortblock. It's free if you pick it up. I have a hoist to get it into the truck. The spare SB is a stock 04 block. It had about 4k miles on it when the intake caught fire (04 f150 recall issue) and destroyed the heads and front cover. The block and all the bits inside are just fine but could use a cleaning with steel wool.

Jareds... sounds like a deal. I didn't want to charge you for it cuz I told you we'd do the install as the trade but if you'd buy it outright that might just fix the issues. Make an offer or I'm still down for the swap/trade action if we can get it all figured out.

what kind of hp are you planning on running?? Cause a stock 2v block can handle well over 400hp as long as you upgrade the pistons and rods. the stock block and the crank are good up to around 475hp
converting to a 5.4 i hear is a bitch, not to mention the weight difference between the 5.4 and the 4.6, adjusting the computor components, etc etc.. that would be alot of work. if your looking for a street cruiser maybe a weekend car pushing under 500rwhp i would stick to a 4.6, even the 2v cause its going to be cheaper, in my opinion

If you read the 5.4 thread, converting to a 5.4 involves a 5.4 engine (which the majority of parts is interchangeable w/ the 4.6) and a dyno tune. The weight differance is only 30-60 lbs which is nothing. All in all, replacing the engine w/ another 4.6 takes the exact same work/cost as putting in a 5.4 except w/ the 5.4, you have more potential for power.

well what happen to the motor was that the piston on the passenger side shot out..could this be from the air to be running to lean...also i was thinking on rebuilding my engine, the whole bottom end, forged crankshaft, forged rods and pistons, i was told i would save money this way instead on buying a new block.and since im doing this , rebuildind my rear-end at the same time is on my mind

well if your gonna do it, do it right. Go ahead and bump up the splines, get the gears for them and traction lock. A nice aluminum driveshaft, transmission with a decent transbrake installed, and a built 5.4....NICE track car...lol sorry, kinda described what im going to do soon

like i said, i heard it was a bitch, i guess i heard wrong, i know for sure that the intake will not fit so that would have to be custom fabricated

Nope, just gotta get adaptor plates from Reichard Racing or HPS. Or, if you wait a couple of months, HPS is releasing a 2V intake for the 5.4.

Going w/ Billet is over the top. Forged pieces is all you will ever need. Is this price for all new pieces, combo of your old engine parts w/ new, is this a long block or shortblock?

gotta see a breakdown of how he's doing the math. 2k is about the minimum labor, so you have to limit yourself to about 4 grand in parts.. which would be cams and a nice forged shortblock. If you can squeeze another couple grand you can do the heads.

Think of the 5.4 as the old 400. Always thought of nothing more than a truck engine but now, the aftermarket is changing that as well as people realizing parts interchange w/ their smaller counter parts (5.4 w/ 4.6 and 400 w/ 351C).
