Heavy clutch petal - solutions?
The clutch in my 99 GT is a B*tch to live with in daily driving. Is there a way to adjust the stiffness? I have seen the Steeda Clutch Adjuster Kits but I don't think it with help the petal feel. Anyone have this problems or know how to fix it? I bought the car used, but it was not modified at all, so I don't think there is an aftermarket clutch in it. Please help

i've noticed that mustang clutches are very stiff compared to other cars. I've had a 96 and an 03 and both the clutches are stiff. If you ask me though the 96 clutch was way heavier compared to the 03. Really i think it's just a mustang thing. Any other car feels like a toy to me though so i prefer the stiff clutch.
Centerforce Dual Friction clutch.......Steeda Double hook quadrant...and Steeda Firewall Cable adjuster....is your solution. The centerforce has a LIGHT clutch pedal feel. I have that set up and couldnt be happier....

The car only has 38K miles so it isn't a replacement. I am lost on this one. I want to avoid taking it to Ford and having them bend me over.

If your clutch is a lot harder than theirs, you probably have a problem. Its likely that you need the adjuster kit (all these cars need one, in my opinion, and the Steeda unit is one of the best, though I prefer the Fiore automatic click adjuster) just to start. In all likelihood it will help but won't cure the problem - but you will eliminate a lot of slack out of the system (and the inevitable crunch when the plastic parts give up the ghost - real soon if you're putting lots of pressure on the pedal).
The reality is that, with what, 100,000 miles or so on the clutch, you are looking at a replacement real soon.

Thanks to all that responded :notworthy , I definately have some where to start. I will get the steeda kit and see if that helps. If it doesn't do the trick I guess I am looking at a new clutch. I can't really live with it the way it is now.
I had test driven many mustangs before I bought this one and I could tell a huge difference between those that had been "ragged on" and the one I bought which felt exactly like the 04' I test drove at the dealership. I noticed a slight clutch difference at the time but I wasn't driving in traffic for a half hour to and from work which I am now.
I will post again once I install the quadrant kit/firewall thing/cable.
