off road xpipe legal in TX?

Look to see if your county does emission testing. If you have to pass the sniff test then you will fail with an o/r pipe due to the cats not being on. If you have to do a visual test, then I'm sure you can find a shop that will "look past" not having the cats on. My town is starting the sniff test in 2006, so I have a little time to play without the cats.

As long as you have MIL eliminators you will pass the "sniff" test...that's why they are made...to turn of your malfunction indication lights...which is what makes you fail if it is reporting a malfunction, or if you have a chip with the correct information.

NO.....that is not true. All the "sniff" test does is check to see if your computer is sending codes saying that something on your car is malfuntioning...i.e. the cats. If your computer thinks that they are functioning properly with the off road pipe, via a chip or MIL eliminators, you will pass emissions. Trust me, I have done it in my county, not saying all counties are the same. All they do is put it in your tail pipe to see if your cats are working properly, if they are, or your car "says" they are then you pass. You may fail a visual inspections unless you have a prochamber in which case you can say that it is a high flow cat in the box or something like that. I don't know of anyone who has failed with the MIL eliminators installed and functioning properly. Sniff test have nothing to do with air/fuel ratios;which off road pipes change slightly unless you get it corrected with a chip.

If you have MIL's though doesn't that pretty much cut off the signal for no cats? I mean if they just hook it up to the computer and it checks fine because of the MIL's then there is no need for the sniff test?
