Default BBK T.B, 62mm or 65mm?

What one would be best for my 96' Cobra. I see no blower anytime soon. Maybe a shot of gas sometime down the road.

But if you get a few extra horse? I bought a 62mm on ebay yesterday, cheap. I had a 70mm FRPP on the GT and I could tell it made a few H.P. I'm just looking for a few cheap h.p.

TBs are alot like carbs...

Its VERY EASY to lose power with a TB...

if its too big, to small... the best TB is hard to determine...

If you got it cheap then what the heck...

But TBs cost a little too much considering the minimal gains

the stocker is just fine unless you've bumped up the cams or had other significant mods. If you've already gotten it, check it out and see if the calibrated butt-o-meter tells you there's more power there. Exhaust mods should be where you blow your cash right now. I'd suggest Bassani Mid-Lengths and a 2.5" catted H or X pipe of your choice and a nice magnaflow catback. You're likely to see as much as 20hp or more from that kind of mod. Then the TB will start to show you more gains but still not enough to justify the retail cost of one.

If you're bound and determined to do it, stay small and stick with the 62.

I'm running the stock H pipe and no mufflers right now. Thats how it was when I bought it and I like the way it sounds. I did just get a couple flows,40's with dumps. Not sure when I'll get around to putting them on.

eeeek... no muffs and a stock H... jeebus. Well we all have to start somewhere right.

Watch those flows with dumps... they RESONATE fuggin LOUD. I had them for a year with my bassani catted x and they shook my nuts to the point of pain from 1700-2200rpm under any load at all. My friends wouldn't even ride with me cuz they felt like they were getting stomped in the wedding tackle.

If you're going to use flows, use tail pipes too. No matter what... get a catted 2.5" X or H pipe to replace the stocker. It'll sound gobs better and performance gets a nudge to the higher side. Not having mufflers is probably costing you performance, likely tq production but only a dyno can tell for sure.

I really hate the looks of tail pipes, always have. Isn't the stock H pipe on a cobra 2.5"? I got the flows on ebay with the dumps already on them just so I can get the ugly *** tail pipes off. I had a 69' road runner with dumps and it wasn't too bad. 70' 340 dart with orange peelers and no tail pipes,it was loud. But I was 17 and loud was cool. That Dart was a fast mo fo. I give me right nut to have it today. Heres a pic of it.This was like 1982,I think. But anyway,do you think I'll hate the dumps that bad?

all I can tell you is it sounds bad *** from outside the car and it really causes some considerable testicular discomfort inside the car. Forget about any hope of talking to anyone or making a phone call while you're in it.

I'm in the same boat though. I HATE tail pipes, I think they pollute the appearance of a car.

In any case, if you want flow like sound and some comfort then a combo like a 2.5" Mac prochamber mid-pipe and a set of magnaflow, borla, bassani mufflers is a good way to go.

No the cobra has a 2.25" pipe.

if you want to use the flows then put some sort of expansion chamber in front of the flows to cool down the resonance. Also, if you aim the dumps a little more rearward than downward it helps with the pounding it gives your ears.

Just be carefull w/ aiming the dumps upwards... the last thing ya want is exhaust to get into the car and get CO poisoning while on the road

off road pipes are just senseless IMHO. High flow cats might cost 1-2hp if anything at all and they really do help the environment. It is incumbent upon us in the motorsports hobbies to do our part to keep the air clean before our sport is legislated against and we're mandated to do some wacky smog mod by the govt that costs real power... like dropping compression to 7:1 like the early 70's.

I do see what your saying, but the catted ones are so damn costly. Maybe I'll just stay stock for now. I've got alot of parts to install this winter anyway. I did get the 62mm T.B. on ebay cheap. I'm putting the UCA and LCA on this week on my day off. Really want to get the 4.10's in soon. Thats where my money needs to go.
