Thrush turbo mufflers

Thrush turbo mufflers
Will any after market Turbo muffler like the Thrush turbo or Summit turbo flow better than the stock GT muffler? I have an 01 GT. The mufflers from the factory sound pretty good but are a little to quiet for me. I just want a muffler that's a little louder and was curious if the bargain turbos would increase flow over stock.
Also, does anybody know the diameter of my stock tailpipes?
Thanks, Mark M

at least get flows, you'll by the cheapo thrush and then end up gettin something better and more money in 6 months. save yourself time and money and do it right the first time. and if flows aren't your thing go to mustangexhaust.com to listen to different types of setups and find one you like.
p.s. will someone correct me if i got the web site wrong, im %100 thats it. i havent been there in a long time.

Thrush will be resonant as hell inside the car but they will flow better if you get 2.5" or or bigger. The tail pipes are different on some years (the actual tips) some are 2.25" some are 3.5", some are 3". The piping is all 2.25".
Normally almost any aftermarket muffler, particularly glasspacks will flow better than the stock muffs. They're designed to make a particular note and keep the overall sound volume low, not to make good power.

Back in the day before Flowmaster, 1980-82, we put the Thrush turbos on everything. They made a great, "Hollow", sound. You knew that the car had turbo mufflers on it. They flowed well also. And they lasted a long time!
Oh yeah, my dad always ran glasspacks on his car. They sounded nice but I was growing up in the turbo muffler age. I have a soft spot for that sound.

Yeah, after I put Flowmasters on my car, my Dad said, "I like my Hooker Headers and Thrush mufflers better." Only if I had the fabrication skills to put some on...and only if Hooker made shorties for my car (headers for 64-95 and 05+ but none for 96-04?).

Yeah Redneck, I'm 42. But I don't look a day over 41 1/2!
Bassman, you'd probably would get that sound just by putting on the turbos. ThrushTurbos cost about $20 each. But I know you spent quite a bit on those flowmasters. Mark M

Damn got me by a decade. I look about 19 though. Thankfully the crows-feet are starting to show so now I can at least by smokes without getting carded.
As soon as the 5.4L makes it into the car I'll be slapping a set of thrush's on in front of my borlas to cool the sound down a little. The loud police are kinda cockish in some of the towns around here and I don't need to be giving them more reason to stop me. I have to run dumps as it is so I already get a LOT of hard stares from the local super troopers.
