Why is the hose on the back of the engine "popping off" when i get on it (4500 rpms and more). The hose is one of two that are up next to the firewall and attached to the intake. They both come from around the exhaust manifold and one stays on the other builds too much pressure making it blow air. Why is this happening??????? I am pulling my hair out over it. We decided that maybe the exhaust was plugged, today we pulled the x pipe and removed all of the lose filter in the left cat. This did not solve it. Thanks

 

what do you mean "popping off"? Do you mean that when you get on the gas up to 4500 and let off, that the exhaust crackles/pops as the rpms go down? If so, every uncatted(and maybe catted) x-pipe will do that. I love the sound personally, and my uncatted X doesnt do it nearly as loud.

 

no i said a hose on the back of the engine blows or falls or comes off however you wanna say it. not the backpressure of the exhaust

 

It shouldn't be popping off because there is no boost (unless you're hiding something) so you only do vacuum or zero pressure. It's probably a lose fitting hose that comes off with engine heat, try a zip tie or hose clamp to hold.

i think its a vacuum hose baecause when it comes off, it makes this noise like blowing air. It didn't come with a clamp so would that even help any?

 

yeah... that says vacuum. Generally, any kind of pressure enough to blow a vacuum hose off is bad. Run a quick compression check. That'll at least confirm or disprove a more major engine problem.

Does it burn oil in any significant amount?

 

the engine has a total of 400+ miles on it a problem like that is unlikely... but i know nothing. I just cant see it being that kind of problem.

 

how is a vaccum line being blown off?

can you take a pic of it for us.

 

fact of the matter is, if something is pressurizing a vacuum line you've got a serious problem brewing. The next thing to go in most similar cases is rear main seal, oil pan gasket or any other equally painful thing to repair along the same lines.

If you have access to a vacuum/pressure guage, hook it up to that hose and watch it at 4500rpm... see what's happening. We definitely need a pic though.
