Default Opinions on 4.30 gears for a Cobra

I talk to the shop that is doing all the work and they suggested 4.30 gears would be good for the 98 Cobra block swap they are doing for me. What do you guys think? I do not use my GT everyday and sees highway every once in a while. Anyone have 4.30s?

With those gears you would get the most out of the cobra motor but you would have sucky gas mileage if you did run it on the highway. I would get your driveshaft properly balanced if you have em installed otherwise youll probably get some vibration at any highway speeds.

Your gas mileage won't be greatly affected because of the way your 5th gear is geared, but it all depends on your right foot :violent1:

it should be fine, my truck had 4.10's with 3k stall convertor, just had to a little less aggressive at stop lights or it would spin and slide

I have 4.30's on a daily driver. I get 21 mpg at 75 mph on trips. I would go either 4.30's or 4.56's on a 4v.

As far as highway mileage these cars do well with 4.10's, remember you spend most of your time cruising in overdrive. I get 21 mpg with 4.30's @ 75 mph. I have never checked out what I could get @60, too impatient I guess.
I found my torque converter sucked a couple mpg off on city driving.

Another vote for 4.30's....I have a 96 gt, with an 02 motor with all the bolt ons. I'm sticking a 4000 stall converter with a set of 4.30s in the car. And yes, this is my daily driver...actually its the only car I own since I sold the other stang 2 years ago.

With a turbo I would go with 373's . Gears aren't that much so I would still do 4.56's while your N/A .
