VT Stage 1 Cams
I am thinking about the VT stage 1 cams for an 02 GT 5-speed. What gains will i get with these? If the gains are good i'll go with these but if not i'll get Stage 2. On the stage 2's though what do they mean by upgraded computer and intake give examples of how to upgrade this stuff to where it needs to be for this setup. Thanks i think i want Stage 1's though because you do not have to have lots of setup stuff on the car. LMK :icon_smur

VT cams are excellent. Stage I cams dynoed at 22rwhp in an article at modulardepot. Guys are seeing gains in the upper 30's with the stage II's. When they say "upgraded computer", they mean you must get a chip or flasher. I'd go with the Xcalibrator and a mail order tune. It is much cheaper and any tweaking that needs to be done can be emailed to you for free. You dont need to upgrade the springs with the stage I's but you might as well while you're in there for insurance. 180.00 for springs is nothing compared to what your engine will suffer if a spring breaks at 5500 rpm.

Stage II require you to use aftermarket valve springs. Which themselves arent too expensive but are a pain in the but to install.
The labor to install jus cams from modular powerhouse is $350.
The labor to install cams and valve springs is $1000.
That should tell ya something.
Unless you want to squeek every possible pony out of it stick with the stage 1.

A lot of guys run the stage 2's with stock heads like myself. Not disagreeing with you or anything, just sayin they arent necessary to run the stage 2's. But they sure as hell will give you some awesome gains when paired together, I hope to have my heads done by steen in the future. But if you get the stage 2's then youll need springs, a tune, higher stall if your auto, and gears. I also recommend LT's and plenum t/b.

I'm undecided but i think i'll go with stage 1's because there is not much u have to do to the car to use them and the gains are not seriously different from the stage 2's. Will stage 1's work well with ported heads though?
