Question 1 Stage versus 2 Stage?

Hey all,
The wife and I were watching Pinks last night, and a negotiation was made for the drivers to use only 1 stage of nitrous, but one of them had wanted to use both his stages. The wife asked me what stages meant, and what the difference is between 1 stage and 2 stage. I had always just figured I knew this info when wacthing by myself, but now that I actually had to think and answer it, I realized I didn't know. So, what's meant by a "stage" and what's the difference between 1 and 2?

i think stage 1 is a little shot just to get going with out losing too much traction then you hit stage 2 which is a bigger shot a little bit farther down the track where you're less inclined to lose traction. For example, a typical stage one shot would be like 50 and stage 2 would be 150.

two stages is pretty much 2 nitrous kits on the car like my setup. Stage one being a mild shot for launching and usually halfway down the track the 2nd stage will kick in at either a certain speed/rpm or on a timer. I run mine by stage one on WOT out the hole for launchin and flip that switch off and flip the next one and push the button in 2nd gear for the 125shot...all for traction purposes.

Like he said you run as much nitrous as you can on the first stage to get out of the hole with out spinning, then the 2nd stage is turned on to give it more power once you have some speed and you wont loose traction. Becuase on cars with 250-500shots if that all hits at once when you launch you will loose traction or pull huge wheelies which looks cool but costs to you time and parts (if you land hard and dent your oil pan,headers,etc.).
