back pressure is the pressure that is built up in the exhaust side of the head, without backpressure, a car looses low end torque, so your car will feel slower down low. However, it should be find up top.
rolling into the throttle from down low it will feel sluggish and unresponsive.

an underfilled a 3" exhaust sounds like azz. You only need 1 part to be 2.5" to make the backpressure return though and then when you get a blower you can replace the 2.5" section with 3" and be done with it.
teal's right though. You'll lose back pressure and low end grunt. Not recommended.

because they dont' make any but the most marginal of gains for the cost. A cai is good for looks and that's about it. 1-3hp on average. Intake spacer is not that bad but pricey for not delivering much. The MAF is neither here nor there.. it's just more money. Bolt-ons don't really get that much power gain at all. Thus those with more money invested will tell you not to waste your money.
He's not saying your car is crap, or that you're dumb... he's saying you should stop spending on mods that get you nothing and start saving for mods that really do stuff in a big way, like cams, blowers, nitrous, etc... It's good advice but it's also the truth and therefore a jagged little pill to swallow after you've put so much into getting the ones you have. He's not dissing you, he's trying to help you but just with a little less tact than you'd have probably liked.
