Hypertech tuner, smoking deal!

Hypertech tuner, smoking deal!
Just got a preowned Hypertech tuner for my 01 GT:banana: . Yes I know guys, my car can't be custom tuned with this programmer but it will still be fun to use since my car is comepletely stock And I can upgrade to a custom tuner in the future. Besides, I will have no trouble getting back what I paid for it!
My car is an automatic and engine is in stock configuration.
Questions:
#1 What RPM is the stock REV limiter set at? I want to increase the REV limiter so the engine will rev a little higher. How many more RPM is safe for my stock valvetrain?
#2 At what tempeture does my 01 GT's thermastat open? Hypertech recommends inserting a 160 or 180 thermastat.
Thanks for any help you guys can give! Mark M:clap:

not to sure about question number 1 but number 2, go with a 180 thermostat not a 160 unless the tuner can trick the computer with the 160. usually when you put a 160 in your car, the computer will stay in cold mode and will make your car run rich and crappy.

I think the stock thermostat is in the 190's. everyone i know uses the 180.
oh since your car is stock, I wouldn't really raise the rev limiter, your car probably drops off power around 5K RPMS with the auto, if you go after your HP drop off, your car will start to go slower, might sound louder, but your going slower. my little knowledge about autos.

I have the superchips tuner(similar to hypertech)and have played with the shift points at the drag strip. Just had my car dynoed again since hadnt done it after the Xpipe install. Power does start to roll off after 5K. Stock the car shifts at about 5800. I wouldn't recommend going any higher than that. You wouldn't see any benefit of it. Ive been told that shifting where your tq and hp cross is where you want to have it shift at. But at least for my car I think thats a bit too low in the rpm range to keep the same momentum up. Lasttime I went I lowered the shift points a bit where it shifted about 5500 and I think I lost about .15 seconds in doing that. All the other times Ive raced I just left it at the stock setting.

Your wasting time and money with that programmer. I have had a superchips maxtuner and got rid of it then got a diablo predator. The only good from that was changing my gear ratio after the swap. Otherwise spend alittle bit more on a custom tune. More power gains than that hypertech BS

Im very happy with the generic tune that I have. The A/F ratio is near perfect throughout the rpm range and it gave a good increase in performance. The guy I was talking to at the shop I was at said he was doubtful that I could squeeze much more out of it with a custom tune..(shrug)
