Default Requesting some input on Gears and Short-Throw Shifter, please.

Hey everyone, I wanted to get your thoughts/input, both Pro & Con, on removing the stock 3.55 gears and shifter on my 2005 GT, and installing 4.10 gears and a short-throw shifter.

Thanks.

well the con to 4.10's in that kinda car is you'd have a hard time getting traction in first gear, but since you'll be shifting alot more, the short shifter would be good. The question to ask is, do you see a supercharger in your future? IF so, I'd say 3.90's max, but go 3.73's. All that power with 4.10's would make your tires go bald.

I also thought the 05 shifter was pretty small stock, would you really need it much shorter?

Well, yes I do see a S.C. in my future, but not in the future that will come any sooner than the next 2-3 years. :shifty:

I've been looking at the Drag Pack from Ford Racing, it comes with what they call a "Super Short Throw Shifter" co-designed by Ford Racing and Hurst. They claim a 40% reduction in throws.

3.55's are a nice street gear and they're road trip friendly. I wouldn't replace them, particularly since you're looking to go blower. You'll have the power to overcome the gears and you won't need to spend all day winding the motor on long trips. If you want bigger 3.73's are a nice step but I don't like 4.10's unless you need to get the rpms up faster because of a lack of torque or waiting for boost to spool or cams to come into their power zone. 3.90's are another idea but they're a little big for me.

The short shifter is really a good idea. The stock shifters are a little sloppy feeling to me and don't put the handle in a good place to push into 3rd with any authority.

Ok, here goes. Get some 3.73s or 3.90s, that way, in the future, you dont have to switch them out for a blower, and they give a GREAT gain in acceleration. Also, get an MGW shifter, dont bother with the FRPP one, its crap lol, I dont know from experience, but the MGW is HANDS down the best one out there. Youll love them both.
