there is a 1990 honda accord that i could buy for $325. problem is it has a blown cylinder. the body is in great shape and everything is fine in it but th cylinder is blown. it has 200xxx miles. how long will that last and would it be worth the money. i just need a car to drive so i can sit the stang. posted this on another site jsut wanting more opinions

they usually last up to around 200,000 miles. That one is dead

 

No telling if it has been taken care of its life it would have way more than 200K in it before shes a goner.

If you can fix whatever is wrong with it, then go for it. Keep the scheduled maintenance up and a honda will last virtually forever.

 

i know a honda last a lot longer than 200,000 miles because my dad had one and it lasted over 300,000 he took care of it but it lasted well over 200,000. so go for it and do an engine swap on a used honda engine?

 

Kind of hard to say because you don't know what all the car has been through. I would say if you can fix the cylinder for a good price, it would be worth it. Like stated above, keep the maintenance up on it, and you should get your money out of it.

 

Plan for the worst and if that is cheap to fix then go for it.

 

Exactly, if you know how it was treated, then thats one thing, but a well treated honda should last WAYYYY more than 200k miles. A blown cylinder sounds like a pricey fix to me, like way more than the 325 bucks you are going to pay for a non running car. I dunno, its up to you, but Id keep on looking man. They are out there everywhere, you just have to be patient.

 

the car runs. i drove it last night. everything is fine if i can even say that it just take more rpms to get going (its a manual) and at a lower rpm it feels like it has no power which, what honda does feel like it has power, but i think you get what im saying

 

Is it the rings are blown? or bad head gasket? if its a head gasket a cheap $60 and a few hours of labor will have it running in no time. If its rings just a cheap set of rings and a cheap mechanic (assuming you dont wanna do it yourself) would also not be to bad. But just saying a pison is blown doesnt really give us an idea of how bad it is.

Here is a quick question, does it smoke at all? and if so what color, white blue or black.

 

hondas will last forever.. if ya take care of it... i used to work at a honda dealership.. i bought a 88 prelude about 3 months ago.. has 179k on right now.. runs and drives fine.. very reliable cars.. my bro has a 91 accord with 17?K on it as well and it runs and drives perfect as well.. just take it easy on it and it will pay foritself, that is if its not tooo beatin up right now..

ps: me and my bro only have these cars as winter beaters.. it's been nice to be able to store the stang during the winter...

 

Its a Honda, it will go 3-400k easy.

Best thing to do with that one is buy it and put a new "stock" motor in it. Its actually pretty cheap to do, the Japanese government won't let cars on the road with over a certian amount of miles on them without a new engine going in, all those 40k motors that come out get sent here to be put in cars that have had it... I've seen ads to get them for $1200... So about $1500 and you have a Honda good for another 20 years!
