I have a Panasonic I bought last year for less then $400. It is digital and works great. I am not big on brand names with this stuff. Take my 55" wide angle HD TV I bouth three years ago October. I paid $1600 for it back then and still works great. The TV is a Panasonic too.

I work at best buy in the digital imaging section, but I dont know a bunch about video cameras. Just go for a Sony because they have the touch screen, carl zeiss lense, and does a really good job. We have one for lower $300 (doesnt take pictures)... thats the one to go with if you want a cheaper one.

What about one that does still shots and takes video (an actual video camera, but can act like a digi cam.)

I dont like the pictures they make... their best one is usually like 1 mp and isnt really worth anything.

There is this new camera that actually has a camera and video camera both put together. Unfortunately its incredibly slow and bulky.
