Default Question on tires and steering

I got new tires for the rear today. 285's. I had 265's in the rear which i now moved to the front. I couldnt feel any difference in the steering but my dad drove my car and he said the steering wheel felt a little stiff, and overtime, this could damage the steering system. Is that true or can I mess anything up by having such big tires in the front? And how critical is it to get your wheels aligned after getting new tires. (I have 2 diff threads). By the way I get soo much better traction with the new tires.

You will be fine with the 265's in the front. Lots of people run that size with no problems at all.
