Default Next GT500 to have 600+ HP

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/16/r...00-horsepower/

Can you afford it?......

Probably not but, If they tweak the suspension on this thing like they did for the boss 302 and give it some decent rubber I would be money it will rape gods for 60K and.... well.... that's kinda cool

I'm thinking carbon ceramic brakes and seeing if they can shave a few more lbs would go nicely with the boss suspension.

Still 620 may be to much to handle

Suspension, brakes, and weight, then add horsepower. The Shelbys that are out now can't handle or get traction, so why add more horsepower*.

*Unusable horsepower.

Unfortunately, it's because the hp number is what sells the car over a camaro or corvette. Whether or not it can handle that power is an afterthought.

I'd rather them put it on a diet then keep adding horsepower. The author of that article must not have heard of the 638hp ZR1 or they just don't want to put it in the same category as the Mustang.

Shelby ruins mustangs. Fact.

SVT was the only thing Ford had that did worth a ****. The 03-04 Cobra, the SVT Foci, and the Lightning were all way ahead of their time until Ford decided they wanted Shelby's name stickered on there to help sell it. And then it was all down hill from there.

HP is not what the GT500 is lacking. Its a form of launch control, weight reduction, suspension, brakes, adjustability on the fly, that all make it fall short of the Vettes, Porches, and other manufacturers of "semi-supercars". I'll never waste my money on a GT500. The Boss and the base 5.0 are much better options when you want to build yourself a supercar-killer.

Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races. -Carrol Shelby
This is why they add horsepower, it's not about making the best, it's about making the best selling car. If they added suspension, brakes, etc. then 90% of the car buying population would say "camaro has more horsepower, so it's better."

On the other hand, those people buying the high horsepower probably couldn't handle it if they used it.

It's sad when a 620hp car is still running a 12 second 1/4 mile. Hell keep the car with a supercharged 5.4l at 500-550hp, but then drop a crap ton of weight and add better suspension.
