Asked a million times by a million other ppl I bet...but I am blind and can't seem to find a clear path.

Car: 01 GT Coupe 5spd.

Current mods:

17x9 17x10.5 ordered from MT.com with tires.
Flowmaster American Thunder cat back exhaust.

Here it is...(sounding lame) what should I do next? Budget for this round is $600.00 total. The goal here is faster/quicker car (duh) and since I am getting the 17inch wheels/tires, do I need to tell the ECU that I have done this? (car came with 16's(on it now)

SCT xcalibrator II?
Short shifter? (Triax)
CAI?
TB & Plenum?

Anything at all? Maybe 600.00 isn't enough to see/feel a gain...maybe it is?

Sorry for asking this...Im sure I sound like a broken record...but I want to get the good stuff the first time. Thanks in advance.

As for the gears...3.73 5th gear 70mph rpm? 4.10? Is this a do-it-yourself project?

tuner and gears... best bang for your buck...

If ya get a short throw... I recomend Pro5.0, others recomend MGW...

And CAI is a waste... just throw a K&N filter on and call it a day

 

Gotcha...just looked a minute ago at my air filter and it is a K&N stock replacement filter(shweet!) Alrighty then...sct2 and gears eh...Have the dealer install the gears? or is this an "any shop will do" thing...thus...do-it-yourself? It's funny...I am a mechanic by trade but have only ever really worked on Bimmers...we dont put gears in the Bimmer diffs...they just get replaced so i dont know how to do it(yet) But I've got a lift and about 60k worth of tools so give it a go? Can it really be that hard? You guys rock for entertaining this very common thread. Thanks!

 

well... its alot of work... ya need to know what you are doing to install them correctly...

I assume you could study and ask professional advice and do it youself...

But it will need to be done by someone who specializes in rears/ trannys... but they had to have had a first time for doin it to so...

2 choices

Pay a pro... or study learn do it yourself and take a risk at messin up...

(I personally would take the risk... lol)

Thanks folks...shall be the next mods for sure then...only worry about highway speed rpm's. This is my sole unit of transportation and I'm driving to Hilton head in a month. Oh, what does 3.73 or 4.10 do for the 0-60 times?
