I already have a 26 for carry. I chose the 34 as a fun gun/range toy/home defense gun. And if I dont like it I can still sell it used fir more money than any other model costs brand new. So either way I win. Make sense?

So, you somehow managed to break your glock, and they let you pick out any model they had to replace it, regardless of MSRP?

I didnt break it... 21 failures to return to battery within the first 220 rounds... there was something wrong with the gun right out of the factory.

And yes, they said ANY model... so I went with the high dollar competition model. Lucky me eh? nope...smart me

and...I changed my mind again... goin with the 35...same gun as the 34 but in 40cal. that way I can use a 9mm barrel, or a 357 barrel and have 3 guns in one.

Listen here ***... It failed on me, and two other people at the range. Dont be hatin that Im gettin a 34 for my troubles... yes a 34...they had zero 35's and to get one would be a 6-12 MONTH wait. So they are sending me a 34 with night sights.

glocks dont fail eh? do a google search for glock gen4 issues.

glocks do fail... it's just rare. With only 34 parts in the whole gun it's hard to screw one up. BUT even glock occasionally makes a boo-boo. At least they out and out replace things though and they'll let you pick something else from their lineup. If you ask me it's still the best.

Can you change out the barrel on all the glock models or just certain ones? And I mean change out the barrel to a different caliber.

you generally can go down in caliber, but not up. So, you can have a 40 that shoots 9, or 357, but you cant have a 9 and put a 40 barrel in it unless you change the entire slide assy.

All. Note that what you get when you drop a different caliber in there is limited to what's available on that same case head diameter.

In .45ACP Glock you can drop in:
.400 cor-bon (165gr @ 1250)
.38/45 (125gr @ 1450) (hard to find, stiff recoil)
and you can get .22LR conversion slide/mag/barrel kits as well.

In a 10mm auto Glock you can do:
.40 S&W (may need a lighter recoil spring)
9x25 dillon (125gr @1700, rifle like, heavy duty, needs a heavy spring)
.357 Sig (great option)
.22LR conversions similar to above

9mm:
Not a damned thing really. .22LR conversions but that's about it. You can buy a whole aftermarket slide assembly and mag and shoot .40 and .357 sig from it though.

.357Sig:
.40 S&W. Note that this requires either stiff .40 ammo or a lighter recoil spring.

The sub compacts are sometimes harder to just go online and order aftermarket barrels for but for the most part, you can interchange most parts among frame size similar guns. In general glocks are friendly to caliber changes. I keep my 10mm Glock 20SF around because I have so many barrels for it.

Alright cool. So then, if I went with the G23 (.40), I could essentially put in a 9mm barrel and be fine, right? My wife finally gave me the ok to get a gun although she still isn't exactly thrilled about it. I want to get her to go with me shooting sometimes so she'll get use to the idea more. I figured being able to go down to a 9mm would be good for her to shoot. Although I would have her use my dads .22 pistol for the first time.

No. A 40 can take a .357sig barrel but that's it. You'd need an aftermarket slide to do 9mm. She'll be able to hold a .40 just as easily as a 9 though. I wouldn't worry about that. If you're set on a glock the .357 sig model would be what I'd recommend for you. Then just pick up a .40 barrel from Lone Wolf and you're good to go. .357 sig is like 357mag with a medium hot load and will be a bit much for her the first time. Aftermarket barrels are 110 bucks.

Alright sounds good to me. My dad has a 357 mag that I've shot several times. How is J & R in Livermore as far as prices go? Would you recommend any other places?

Go to J&R, ask for Joe (fat youngish guy) or Jim (older grey hair, no beard, glasses). Tell him I sent you to him. They're competitive with everyone else on price. Usually a few bucks cheaper on the guns than other shops. I think it's about 569.

This allows you to have one in the gun, two on the hip and one as a spare. This new G30SF of hers is picky to the extreme to the point she and I both do not trust it for a carry weapon. As far as the accuracy, yeah it's shorter that my G21, which by the way is more accurate than my customized Springfield 1911, but at 10 yards with the G30 you will be consistently 6" off center

Just a FYI... most pistol sights are factory regulated to just 7 yards. If it shoots low beyond that, then take a little bit of front sight blade over the notch. When I shoot at 25yards with many of my factory sighted pistols I'm actually aiming about 3" below the top of the target to net X ring hits. In combat mode the rear sight isn't necessarily as important. Front sight center mass press trigger rinse repeat.

On an aside, .45ACP tends to get around 850-950fps which allows it to drop like a stone. No pistol is really suitable for combat outside spitting distance though some of the higher velocity loads do extend the range out to 25 or even 50 meters in some hot rod magnums and bottle necked cases. More to the point though, the pistol is what is supposed to allow you to get outside spitting distance of a lethal encounter and hopefully buy you time to grab cover & concealment while you formulate an exit plan, call in reinforcements (the cops in civilian cases) and seek any higher power weaponry that might be available (in military and police training this is where you holster your side-arm and get your primary weapon back in the fight)

kevinjones: calling you out as a likely spammer. 5 posts and not a one of them makes a damned bit of sense. I'm about an inch from waving the ban stick. Splain' yourself and change your sig to NOT include an advertisement for a commercial enterprise.

R3D Lonewolf is making a 40 to 9 conversion that does not require anything more than 9mm magazines to go with it. http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.a...OD=983&CAT=238 Now, I have heard that you sometimes have to swap out the extractor to get 100% reliable function with the conversion barrels.

Yeah, I know... I've done such things with factory barrels but the extractor issue is a bigger one than they let on. That's my problem with that direction. The case head difference is very minor but it's enough to matter when you're talking only .030 of extractor engagement anyway. The last thing you want from a glock is malfunctions.

There's an old saying, they asked themselves only if they could and not if they should. I COULD put a .25ACP barrel in it and a special mag and it'd fire and occasionally extract but it's still a bad idea to go down in case head diameters.

Well I won't disagree with that. That is the exact reason that I haven't bought a 9mm conversion barrel for my Glock 27. There probably wouln't be a problem using it for plinking purposes but for competition or defense use I wouldn't trust it.

Zig congrats on the 34. Throw one of the 34 mags on your belt to go with your 26 and you will a lot of firepower.
