Passing of a good furry friend.

Passing of a good furry friend.
I had to put my dog down yesterday. Her name was Jager (pronounced yay-ger). I had her for 8 years she was a real good friend to me. About a month ago I found out she had Nasal cancer which is usually fatal. I opted not to give her chemotherapy because there is no garauntee it would work and she wouldnt understand why she felt so bad.
I have known several people who have died of cancer. It was just as bad watching my girl get consumed.
Took her to the vet yesterday, and sat with her as they gave her the three injections.
I suppose that the only way i could feel this horrible is if she made me feel realy good. I wish i had more time with her, but im thankful for the time i had.
Here is a photo i shot a few weeks ago at the dog park when i took her swimming, before the cancer swelled her neck.

thanks everyone. im still getting used to the fact she is not around. I dont think i have ever felt worse in my life than i did when i was holding onto her petting her while they gave her the injections, i knot that her quality of life was getting bad and would only get worse, but still, that felt awful. i could have kept her another day. but to what point. what end. sometimes you have to say goodbye.

Ohh wow man. I'm deeply sorry to hear of this. I feel your pain, been there before a few times and it's gut wrenching.
Don't feel bad about it though. Like you said, you could've kept her longer but to what extent? You did the right thing, and in your head you have to know that is 110% true.
On a good note, she was a gorgeous dog. Glad to see that she was cared for by someone with true heart.

I feel your pain bro. My dobie was only 8 when we had her put down from heart failure, She couldn't even walk down the steps without collapsing and was really hard to justify the meds she hated so bad, that even hidden in food she would not touch them.. This was a while back, and the pain will go away.

And at the risk of sounding cold hearted, getting a new best friend is a good way to feel better. Here's my new girl. She's actually 5 yrs old now but my best friend, as much as my dobie was.. Maybe more. A beagle makes the perfect pet IMHO..

A few years ago I wouldn't have been able to understand how attached people can get to dogs. I always liked them but they were just pets to me. Then me and my wife got ours after we got married (my first dog) and I completely understand now. Dogs are more than just pets, their family. Sorry you had to let her go Chris.
On a side note I agree with rebelyell. You can never replace that old friend but I can guarantee you that there is a dog in a shelter somewhere near you that will try everyday
