Default Need opinions for Fiance's new car!!

About a week ago my Fiance's car was rear ended and totaled. So we've been on the hunt for a new car. It's going to be her car so it's ultimately her decision since she'll be the one driving it. She really wants a Focus so I suggested the SVT Focus, she loved everything about it but she didn't like the gas mileage and the fact it doesn't use 87 fuel. lol

Have any of you guys had experience with the Ford Focus Zx? Know of any good/bad things??

Here's the one she has picked out. Low miles, good on gas, great condition. He's got it priced right, but theres always room for negotiation.

Thoughts??

As long as it has the zetec motor like the one you posted your all good or a newer one with the 2.3l. The other 2liter thats in the older ones are horrible. Good mpgs, easy to maintain but you have to realize that its a focus. They are imo cheap disposible cars. ie windnoise, interiors cheap, and other odds and ends that just fall apart with cheap cars. Its fords version of a cavalier. And paying 7-9k for a car that old and sold new for around 15 is ehh in my book. For that price range you can get a lot better cars that may not have such low millage but are worth the money. Its sad to say that my mustang has less millage and is probably in better condition and i could never sell it anywhere close to 8k lol

I honestly don't understand why she would get a manual trans. Focus and not get an SVT.... I worked with a guy that drove a ZX and he loved it.

My boyfriend used to have a ZX and he loved it, too. He always talks about it, even though he hasn't had it for 2 years.

I know you live in Tampa, but I don't know where she lives. If it's near you... is she sure she wants a manual because Tampa traffic ******* sucks, but that's something you already know.

Yeah I'm staying away form the older 2L model, I have heard they have nothing but problems. But, from what I've read about the Zetec , it seems to be a really reliable car thats easy to maintain and good on gas, which is exactly what we are looking for. I completely agree with you on the quality of the car though, and we understand that it's just a cheap throw around car, but it works for what we are looking for. Were just looking for a cheap small car that will last us for awhile with little problems.

Now about the price, I'd definitely talk him down. Yeah it's in great condition and has low mileage, but it's still a 7 year old Focus lol.

Trust me, I wish she wanted a SVT Focus instead lol. She has a 30 minute drive to and form work (all interstate) and mileage is really important to her. The Zx gets better than the SVT, and while it may not be by much, it's enough to make her want the ZX instead.

A manual transmission is a must for her, no matter what car it is. Her other car was a manual and she doesn't want an automatic.

Yeah she's so set on a Focus for some reason lol. It's good to hear that other Focus owners were happy with their decision!!

Yeah she lives with me in New Tampa, and yes traffic SUCKS!! She drives to Downtown Tampa 5 days a week for work so it's nothing but traffic lol. Her other car was stick and she doesn't want an auto.

My mom loved hers, she got a newer one after it hit about 90k. You would be surprised what you can fit in that hatch too

Yeah I love the fact that it's a hatch. It's such a practical car.

And it still has a little giddy-up... her focus is our spare car during bracket races.... my brother actually won a race in it!

Sean I'm glad your fiance is ok from the accident. I like the Focus but I think the one in your link is a little pricey for what it is. If you guys ever get bored with it you could drop in a v8 http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...9OoM3bEQv_4URA

It is possible to walk into a dealership knowing you are going to be able to beat any rate they throw on the table. If you want to know something about how JD handles their separate finances or how I handle combined finances, please ask it in the comments below or call in when the show is live.
