Goin Hog Killin!
Taking a trip this weekend to go hunt wild hogs here in Cali. Going down around Santa Barbara on a few square miles of private land. It's supposedly overrun with russian/feral hybrids.
Taking the .270 out again. Hits hard and I can aim on-hair out to 300 yards.
When you guys don't hear from me for a couple days, now you know why.

You need to come out to Arkansas and kill some damn hogs, I'm tired of hearing about the crap.
Also, last summer a trailer of live hogs toppled over and releases an *** ton of hogs on I-40 outside of Little Rock. A couple of weeks ago the girlfriend and I was driving down the interstate and saw a ~200lb pig running down the access road beside the highway. I don't know if it had anything to do with those that escaped that toppled over truck, but only in Arkansas will you see a hog running down the interstate.

To me, wild hog tastes just like a regular pig, but it has a really 'gamey' taste is the best way I can describe it.

The man knows me. I go very few places with just 1 gun... the bathroom, the garage, to bed, etc..
Apart from that, if they're as overpopulated as we're told, it's less a matter of finding them than a matter of not getting found by them first.

i favor the .30-06 round, for obvious reasons. (that, and i know where to get a box of 20 rounds for 17 bucks)
i also like the 5.56 / .223 round, it has no kick to it, and can go pretty far pretty accurately.

Dad will carry his .270 and .44 mag. Incase something happens with me. But seeing as I'm 23 years younger, and a little meaner, I don't mind to jump into a pigs ground, as long as theres 6 or less. I have gotten into a nasty spot with about 9 of them and gotten saved from dear old dad and his .270 on the hill.

.30-6 is retarded for pig. Sorry. I'll still walk the brush with my 30-30 and .357 on my side. I've got more pig kills with my Ruger Blackhawk then I do my Marlin 30-30. And I'm a damned good shot with either one.

30-06 isn't retarded... neither is the .270. The guns I brought reflected the varied terrains I was going to be in. The 270 is good as far as I can see, my Glock with .357sig barrel attached was fine if I happened inside 10yrds and I brought my 12ga semi-auto with barnes all copper slugs for those 30-100yrds shots in heavy cover. I also brought a .243 in case the pigs were really small and at modest ranges.
Just saying this gun is bad/good and that gun is good/bad, that's retarded. You pick your weapon based on your needs. I had fully 8 guns with me. Enough for any situation.
That said, SnT did pick about the most versatile pair of guns for the area. 30-30 and .44 are in fact probably responsible for more dead game animals than any other rounds, and with good reason. They're not too much and not too little and they work their best at ranges you expect to encounter game while hunting, pretty damned close to not all that far (0-150yrds).
Hogs were there in force but were staying on neighbor properties that are "hunter hostile". I could'a killed a few with a well thrown rock but they just wouldn't come across the property line. Since we didn't get any legal shots at hogs we went rabbit killin instead. Murdered a bunch of jack rabbits and ground squirrels and pack rats. Had a pretty good time.
SnTBakosFinest: Any time you wanna go huntin, LMK. I'll join ya.
