Default Yaaaay! New car...:( ?

Well the saturn that i had posted about with the terrible engine noise, i had it checked out by a pro and he said the oil system is shot and isnt delivering oil to the valves. Said pretty much the whole engine has to be rebuilt and is gunna be around 2500+/-. This is not acceptable considering we bought this car for 2k. Soo i need advice, A. what to do with the car now, and B. Would it be possible to go another route like doing the engine build/etc with me and my dad. We have most shop tools except a lift and the know how to do so. Info Just lookin for advice as per what you guys would do.

Gut it and make a drag car!!!

If you really want to be redneck, park it in the back yard and make a dog house out of it.

first off, sorry about the bad luck.
honestly, those saturn motors are a PITA. you might be able to pull a running motor at the salvage yard for $100-$500. other than that, I would consider scrapping for the roughly $500 you might get and look for something else.

You're really sick or you been hangin' around here too long

Deathdiesel, if the car has an oil pressure problem its probably gone too far to make repairs without costing serious money. Low oil pressure will affect all internal moving parts and wear is accelerated very quickly. Rod and main bearings, crank wear, cam saddles in the aluim. head, and rings.

I dont know how much the car is worth or how important it is to you and your family but I would check the pressure with a manual gauge and pull the valve cover and see what damage has been done and go from there.
Good Luck!

The guy i talked to didnt say it was low oil pressure, but that it wasnt giving any oil to the valves and lifters at all. The car is not anything special we just bought it not too long ago, so there is no sentimental value in it however we would like do whatever is easiest and most affordable.

Again with the dog house. It's easy, affordable and practical.

Seriously sorry bout your troubles though. Hope you find a solution that doesn't require the addition of a doggy door.

the only route id go with a 4cyl engine is get one out of a junkyard, around here every 4cyl that gets rebuilt lasts no time, same goes for trannys, once its rebuilt it goes out in 2 months, especially autos. never rebuild anything unless its two stroke or a 5hp and up lawnmower engine, or an old 5.0/3.8. haha.

Good god, i took a look at how much a used motor cost for these cars. One with 130k miles sells for 1k and one with 80k goes for 2k. Ridiculous. For 2k i could get whole car.
