Default This does NOT sound good...

K, so my brother has a DD which is a 2000 saturn ls1 or something like that, 4 cyl SOHC. He said he was driving it after pulling out, and it died. He coasted to a stop, tried to start it again, took a while but started. Started driving again and it starts making a loud knocking. He drives it home about 10min and it was "smoking" according to my mom. Unfortunatly i couldnt see any of this or i could tell you more. Anyways i took a look at it, and it sounds like 3 of the lifters are knocking on the valve cover. It was already knocking before only at around 2500 rpms, and it was only one lifter, now at idle it knocks HARD. My question is what the hell should i do to fix it, if i can myself, and wth to do? Heres a vid of the sound.

Need help ASAP because now hes driving my DD.\

Also on a different note this happened 2 days go i would have posted sooner but the forums for me was ALL fucked up. Like i couldnt sign in or read posts, it was awefull but now its fine. Odd.

Any oil in the car? How many miles on the car? Does the motor have a chain or a belt for timing? Maybe low pressure causing tensioner to go slack or timing issure????

Take the drive belt off and start the motor and see if the noise changes any. Try this first and then advise. Good Luck

First thing i did, was check to see if any oil was in the radiator fluid and any fluid in the oil pan, and none was in either. All fluid levels are fine. 85k miles. I dont think it has anything to do with the drive belts, and the belts themselves arent torn up or anything. And its not a pushrod motor, im almost positive it has something to do with the valves/lifters hitting the valve cover. I tried to take the valve cover off and run it without it, but it has a mean *** seal on it and im not sure how i would go about taking it off let alone replacing said seal.

sounds like you got a problem under the cam cover. I'd start by pulling that and see if you should just go down to pick and pull and yank a new motor or not. It sounds like a bent/stuck valve or the cam may have worn flat.

Ha. I dont have the time to just drop a new motor in. This car is so ****** wierd i highly doubt i could even with instructions. Id like to pull the valve cover and see if theres like a chrome spot where its been hitting but theres a special seal in it thats like super-mega-ultra-awesome glue/sealant. And idk what kind of sealant/glue it is so i dont wanna go ripping it off. D: Plus this thing has a electric radiator, and the whole dam motor is sideways so the pulleys are on the left side.

Sure, ironically i took these about a week prior to this initial problem because i was trying to fix the one valve knocking.

Heres the engine normal view.

The sad thing is with the size of this motor i could be crankin a whole 900hp if it was running right. Lol...
