Default Wish me luck guys and gals

Because......

I have just started the application process for the medical sonography program at GVSU. More specifically the echocardiography specialty. It's a fairly competetive program but if I am accepted I will finally have an end in sight as far as my education goes (for now) it's a two year program and there is no waiting list if your not accepeted better luck next year.

My GPA is good enough to meet the requierment of 3.0 but it's nothing that will wow anybody. What I do have is 4 years of health care experience in many different areas, countless hours of patient contact experience, over 100 hours of volunteer work and I tend to interview very well. Plus I have been job shadowing a echocardiographer for a few months now.

This would be a huge step for me because It would allow for me to get a (big boy) job that would pay enough that my wife and I would feel comfortable increasing the size of our family. something that has always been very important to both of us.

If things go as planned and in 2 years I complete the program I will then start taking classes that will eventually result in a degree in health administration.

as always thanks in advance guys

Sounds like an awesome plan, good luck! I've got tons of respect for anyone going into healthcare, it's a difficult thing to do day-to-day.

Good luck man. Being in the Healthcare field myself, it's a great place to be. I know all those Radiology techs and specialties make good money and seems like a great job.

Where the hell do you work and what do you do that you get benefits for free. I mean I don't pay alot for health and dental but it's not free I just have it deducted from my paycheck.

Haha, I work for Kaiser Permanente. We are mainly in California, but are in a few other states. We have the largest electronic medical record database and I work on the back end for the application. I'm salary, so depending on how much you get paid, we get a certain amount of credits to use towards our benefits. We can pick and choose what we like and if you go over your credits, then you have to pay the difference. My wife and I are fully covered with no co-pays and pretty much everything is covered 100%. Oh, and I also accrue 16 hours a month for vacation.

That sounds cool

I get the PTO I have about 160 hours saved up but no time to use it. Every year in november you are allowd to cash a certain number of PTO hours out so I just do that and get a nice paycheck right before chistmas

Yeah I'm like sitting on 160-170 hours of PTO. I think we can cash in, but not sure. I do know that we can save up to 500 hours of PTO. Cashing it in would be nice though.
