So I lost my job about a month ago...
and I have been pursuing another career field... and as of this week, I am officially in business for myself!! Well... Im an independent contractor for a company called NewTech. I fix paint. Rock chips, scratches, scuffs...etc. I've been going around to car dealers in my area doing demos on their used cars... of the 2 dealers who agreed to see my demo, both gave me accounts. One at a large volume Ford dealership and the other at a medium volume Lexus dealership. I use a full US pantented process to fix rock chips, all by hand. Its an amazing process. I answered a craigslist ad for the job... trained for a week, and now I'm on my way with it. I still have much to learn, but I know enough and can do enough, well enough to get accounts at dealerships that already have a touch-up guy...and a body shop. Well...now I'm their touch-up guy...lol.
big change of pace for me... but I think I like it.

Good deal man. It's never easy to switch careers, no matter what it is. Sounds like you got your foot in the door now for great things. GL to ya. I always wanted to just up and start doing something else but I always end up in the concrete jungle mill.. Not complaining though, I'm good at my job as long as the stress level stays at or below red line.. LOL

Thats pretty cool. Besides dealerships you could always have your own shop also. My cousin has a tint shop in town and has a guy that works there that does paint chip repair, hail damage, ect. You could travel, all kinds of possibilities.

Damn, Dave. It sucks that you lost your job, but I'm glad you found something to fall back on.
I can only imagine how hilarious it would be if you had to repair rock chips on a thug car. Something like a lifted Caprice on 26" wheels that are worth more than the car is, a custom pink/orange chameleon paint job, and a stereo that can shake the silicone off of Joan River's face. If you ever find out you have to do that, PLEASE take someone with you so we can get a picture of the look on your face.

Congrats on the job though. I bet its nice to be your own boss

Hahaha, seriously? That sucks. Why not take that money and put it into the Mustang? I can't stand lifted cars with big-*** wheels. Not to be a dick, but what is the point of that? Yes, I know it is your money and all, but I can't help but cringe at the thought of a lifted car.

You should just go all out and be a full on balla' yo! Seriously, why stop at 24's?
This honestly has to be one of the flat-out dumbest fads to come along in a very, very long time.. If you want big wheels go buy a damn truck.
Anyway, 'grats Dave. I know you didn't want to work at the stealership anymore anyway so that's no surprise.

There is nothing that is the least bit attractive about a passenger car that has been lifter 4' off of the ground just so that you can put a wheel that is far too big and isn't even in the wheel well.. It's really no better than the rednecks down here that lift 80's camaro's and put tractor/mud tires on them. Please just do yourself and the rest of the world a favor and put the right size wheel and tire on your car. It not only looks better, but it rides better, and you won't have to spend as much money to accomplish an overall better car.

Trust me, I'm not worried about it, but I am allowed to have an opinion.

Don't know... I like my car... My caprice was my first project and I plan for it to be finished this year and ready to come out for the summer next year. Then the mustang starts for real at the end of that project. If I don't decide to try and get like a 76 impala... Guess I'm sort of a product of my enviroment...
I wasn't necessarily trying to say that it is 'wrong' for you to lift your car, I just meant that I personally don't like it and that it is not something I would do. Do you mean you are going to get rid of the 'Stang for a '76 Impala or the Caprice?
Either way, I still think it is pointless to lift a car. Hell, even a truck, too. It is even ridiculous when I see a truck that is so high that I can walk under it.

All I'm trying to say is that you could take all that money you are going to be dumping into the Caprice and probably supercharge your 'Stang. I have never seen any lifted car that looks even remotely good... at least not around where I live. If I was a product of my environment, I'd be driving an old-*** piece of **** barely running rusted out old Ford flatbed pickup and eating roadkill for dinner.

Congrats on the new job man. Hope everything works out for you.
J_gutta, how can you not be embarassed that your car will be worth less than those rims and tires, not to mention look butt *** ugly.

They won't be worth more than my car. And the best reason of all is because I want 2. Get off my nuts...
