Default went for a test drive today in a couple cars.

today before i went to work @ 4.30, i decided it would be good to burn 3 hours test driving some cars.

1) 2006 Honda s2000

What a piece of junk. I hated it. It had no get-up-and-go for a 240 hp car. Cruising around town at 40 mph in 4th was ok, but when you wanted to go faster, you had to down shift to at least second to do anything. It was like GT's 5th gear....extremely slow. It handled well, but it couldnt accelerate out of a corner like a 240hp car should. The only thing i liked was the ride. It rode extremely well. You could really tell the 50/50 weight ratio was there. But the lack of power (even out of a 2.2 litre engine) was just a pitiful attempt by honda.

2) 2010 Camaro V6 6-speed

p.s. this pic was taken with my cell phone.

it was ok. wasnt a v6, the suspension felt like it was meant to be put into a 1998-2002 camaro. felt extremely big. the v6 was very very peppy. but didnt have the tq of a v8 like it should have. i would buy one ONLY to cruise around in on sunny days...it is def not DD material (which is was i would be looking for if i had to find a new beater if mine was to die). this test drive wasnt meant to really pick it apart, just good fun to drive a new camaro.

Funny story on test drive:
On the way back to the dealer ship, i was stopped at this stop sign. It was on a downward slope so i drifted past MAYBE 6". Next I hear someone laying on their horn. As I look up, its a cop....I am like ohhhhhhh great. I make my turn, the cop turns around and starts following me. At this point the salesman was shitting bricks, he had never delt with cops during a test drive (Im assuming that he was a newbe). a mile down the road, he haddnt flipped on his lights. By this time, i am convinced he isnt gonna pull me over. I hear the cop get on his loud speaker. Word for word, here is what he said:
"HEY BRANDON, HAVE YOU SHAT BRICKS YET?"
when he said that, I had just realized that it was a family friend in the cop car. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

sorry for the long read

oh my god the camaro by a land slide was faster (accelerating of course). i had it in 6th gear aroudn 1500 rpms and floored it...took off like 3.73 and 5th in a mustang gt.

and to the one who said i should have floored it...i would have had the salesman not be there....it was a pretty cool day and his face was cherry red and sweating. lol

True story:
When I test drove my car I had myself and a salesmen in the passenger seat, and my father in the back seat. I took the car on the highway after it warmed up I drove to 110mph (I wanted to make sure it ran well and didn't crap out), took it down a backroad where I power shifted it, and stopped and did a little burnout with the salesmen on board. He was very very unpleased with my test drive. I did buy the car though, because I wasn't about to buy a car that couldn't handle me.

From day one I power shifted this car and drove it hard. Me and my dad took it to 145mph the 2nd day I had it on a long open stretch of road in Boone,NC. We were a little excited about my first Mustang as I had wanted one since I was a little kid.

Man they butchered those poor Camaros IMO.

On the car-beater note, I've been driving my new '06 with a pillow foot for the past 4 days. Who knew that it could get 26mpg city?

Oh, and one more thing...

RANT
Does anyone else hate how pushy car-salesman are? I swear to god, last week I went to my local Ford dealership to look at the 2010s, just because I am a Mustang enthusiast. Witin 30 seconds, the friggin guy is asking me to photocopy my licence so I could test drive it. When I told him I wasn't interested, I made the mistake of mentioning my crashed '03 and that I was looking for a used 05+. He offered a test drive of a GT they had, which was fine because I wanted to see what they were like. But then, I get dragged into the building where I was told to sit in a chair like a kid in the principle's office. Before I know it, the guy is taking my information and starts talking numbers. I told him no less than 5 times that I hadn't even received my insurance payout yet and I was just seeing what was out there. So then the guy goes and gets his manager, who I tell the exact same thing, to which he responds, "So... when is the earliest you would be able to take delivery on this car?" WTF!?

Look, I get it, you want to sell cars, but what the hell man? If anything, you made my NOT want to buy a car from you. Guess what, I didn't! Oh well, maybe you should go back to sales school...
/RANT

But yea, I've never been a fan of the S2000s. What did the Camaro sound like?

I had a similar experience when I was upgrading from my old sixxer. Had the saleguy not been so in-your-face, I'd probably be driving a 2007 GT instead of the Mach. But I'm pleased with what I have, so who cares.

sounded like an american v6 on roids...serously...even though it is a v6, it still had a nice lil bark to it.

the salesman i was talking to was pretty cool. i was looking at the s2k for a good 5-6 mins before he came out. he asked if i had been searching and i told him i had just been poking my head around looking at different cars but wasnt interested in buying soon. he then asked if i wanted to drive it and i couldnt pass the opportunity lol. but that was it of the salesman part of conversation. he then started asking if i was a gear head and how long ive had the stang, he then proceded to talk about his wifes miata. wasnt even close to being a salesman in that sense..i think he was just bored and wanted to get out of the office. lol

oh, and i think that they did a great job on the new camaro..like if you were to put a 69 camaro next to a '10 camaro, you know that GM wanted to keep it extremely close to the original...

i think that ford did a bad job at recreating the vintage mustang...like yes, you can tell it was modeled...but Ford didnt really recapture the vintage-ness as much as GM did with the camaro.

and dont get me started on the challenger...i think that is a pile of poop.

I think the new challenger is one of if not the ugliest muscle cars ever made.

I was just wondering why. I really liked them at first but I test drove a hemi model and honestly it is way too refined for me. It drove more like what I would expect from a luxo car like a CTS, IS350, or something like that. I really hated the throttle, you had to go over 1/2 of the pedal travel to accelerate much at all. Overall it just didn't feel like a sports car or a muscle car to me. I did LOVE the dash layout though.

It also felt very heavy and had soft springs.

well that delay would be the drive by wire..the camaro did that as well. most cars from around 2005 have drive by wire.

That would have to get retuned then but I drove a 06 Mustang the same day and it felt much more linear. The Mustang may have been tuned though, it had Eibach springs, Shelby rims and a few other aftermarket goodies.
