Default looking at getting into network administrator career

I am just looking for advice...i'm not planning on doing this in the military (air force) most COMM people are over manned so this job doesnt pop up to often on the retrain list.

I would like to know things like: Job market, typical beginning pay scales, how to get experience, typical certifications, what degrees look best on a resume. I also have a security clearance so i can still work for the federal governement or state.

i have 18 months left in the military and am looking at a different career field because being a mechanic for the rest of my life is not something im interested in.

my dad owns a telecommunications business.. if that is something you are interested in i can talk to him about that stuff.... he does alot of work for the DOD and a couple Indian tribes.. he has been to some pretty cool places to help with the systems there, like i know a few years ago he went to the base at Gitmo with the DOD to do work, and stuff like that... its pretty cool...

I don't know anything about the network admin industry, but if I had to do it all over again I'd find something in the healthcare field. Or another thing I'd do if I were in college right now is something to do with the green industry. That will be the next booming industry.
