so, i was watching the matrix reloaded last night and on the highway chase scene where trinity jumps off the front of the semi, i was thinking that there is no way she could get up enough speed to jump off the front and not be caught up to by the semi.

i know you guys had a long talk about the airplane taking off of a treadmill, and this is similar. I just wanted to know some other people's opinions.

Did you know they actually built that freeway. They picked a spot in the bay area and built like a 1/4 or half mile freeway for that scene.

and yes, it's just a movie. People can't dodge bullets either.

So your watching people dodge bullets by doing the limbo, ghost type things moving through stuff, a fake reality video game life type of thing, and the person jumping off the front of a truck is what made you think "Whoa! There's no way that could happen." LOL

 

well ****, since all of you put it that way, i'm feeling pretty dumb.

but, how about this, do you think it'd be possible in real life?

because, i was thinking that if the truck was going say 70, that would already make the bike be at 70 plus whatever speed she gets up to. But, as the bike falls in front there is nothing to keep propelling it forward, and the momentum would slow down in mid air. But, do you think the momentum would slow down enough to cause the truck to catch up to her? or when she hit the ground and the friction of the ground caught up would she be able to keep rolling at that pace, or would the wheels catch too much and slow her down a lot.

 

It's about as real as Keanu's acting. hahahaha

 

That'd be a good one for mythbusters, although not really a myth. I say it's possible but certainly not probable. The bike was already going 70 standing still, intertia is there, then if enough wheel speed and traction when it hit the pavement it would take off. Kinda like a 2 stage rocket. I'll bet some dumdass somewhere has tried with bad results being the likely outcome.
