All that it's cracked up to be! lol

This last month has been insanely busy, so far I have been working from 8-5 every day and going to the house every night until about 10:00 and I still don't live in my new house... It seems like every time we would start gaining some ground on things something else would come up and kick me square in the ***.

I honestly thought that we would replace the roof, hang some crown molding and work on a few small things then move in... Nope..

So far this is the list that we (My dad and I) have done.

Motion lights on all corners of the house
Motion lights on the front, side and back doors
Re-did ALOT of electrical inside, switches did things that they shouldn't, safety, etc..
Replaced all of the Sockets, switches and covers to pure white
New Counter tops, drains, and faucets in both bathrooms
New 8.5" Kitchen sink, faucet and sprayer
Installed a new dischwasher
Sanded and stained all bathroom and kitchen cabinets (bombay mahogany) |PAIN IN THE ***!|
Took out the back single 36" door and cut the wall out, hung new 60" French doors
Crown molding in every room and bathroom
New Door for one room and also new folding doors for the Laundry room
Ran all new Phillips HD Coax cable in every room
Ran Cat-5e Plus (internet) jacks in every room
All New Vent covers
Plantation Blinds
15 new window paynes(sp?)
And countless other things like calking, sanding, floating walls..... I'm sure I'm forgetting some things too..

This has honestly been the most unbelievable things I have ever done.. I have never been so exhausted in my life. Really though for two people to get this much done in 27 days is pretty insane.

Obviously I will update with pictures in a few days..

ya... fixing up a house does seem like it would end up a PITA...good luck on finishing it up soon though

when i bought my house i..

replaced all the electrical outlets
replaced all the light switches
knocked out a banister
installed hardwood on my floors
replaced all the trim and crown molding
ripped up a poorly constructed granite countertop and built a new one.
replaced most of the light fixtures
ripped out the deck
painted the house exterior
painted the house interior
built a pergola
stamped in a new concrete patio
ran a walkway to the side of the house
built a dog run
removed a dog run
finished the basement
ripped out and totally remodeled 2 bathrooms
recarpeted the stairs and basement
sunk a cubby into the main livingroom wall and ran power to it and cable management so i could sink my stereo in the wall

i mean, the list goes on forever.

it isnt the work that is fun, but the result is usually worth it!

 

Yeah, I knew I forgot something..

Replaced all of the light fixtures, added two new ones in the kitchen and two new celing fans. Moved the ceiling fan over about a foot because the idiots didnt line it (the cheesy chandalier) up right in the first place..

Still have to hang the new flatscreen and everything as well.

It's been crazy.

At some point in the near future the deck will be expanded by 10 ft. too....

 

When I purchased my house I hired something to do all that .


J/k, I hired someone to do some things like install tile,remove concreate,new kitchen and shovel dirt. I did however scrap popcorn and paint the whole house plus do a million little things. I still have to put some hardwood flooring up stairs but for now Im still trying to unpack and organize everything.

 

It might suck a little now, but when it's all done you'll have something to be really proud of. Good luck

It is alot of work, but very soon you wll be able to sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labor, not to mention the added value to the house. ENJOY !!!

 

same thing happened with a friend of mine whom i helped redo his house. when we finished taking out everything he wanted to replace, all he had left was the frame surrounded by the outside paneling.we replaced EVERYTHING, from the insulation to every light in that house. needless to say it took much longer than he expected.

 

So, I finished my home theatre install tonight and got my PC atleast hooked up. Now I just have to get everything cleaned and dusted and get it all back together right.

I must be doing something right though, because with my ethernet runs and new coax (ran it all myself and made all of the ends etc..) I'm getting about 13,000kbps down and roughly 3,000 up. Not too shabby me thinks!

I'll get some pics within the next few days and show the progress.

 

yeah just wait untill yer figuring out an automatic sprinkler system. Im in the process of designing a system that i hope to be installing next spring.

Owning your home and getting the way you want is the best thing ever. But never be fooled into thinking your done with it. If your married you will always be redoing something. I've had my house for 13 years, and have already redone the kitchen and bathrooms twice. every thing else once, but they are coming around for their 2nd redo.

Rearranging the furniture could happen as much as once a year. Not to mention cleaning out the garage.

My wife loves those Home Improvement shows and she acts on them sometimes.. Usually on my vacation, I'm moving a couch or putting up a new ceiling fan.

And lord help us when it's time to paint again.. Even if she says she doesn't need help, you better bet she will want your help, without you asking.. LOL.

And as for the landscaping? Man, That's gonna take a whole new thread. I'll start one next time I get a day off..

The berber carpet had to go! You can see what is about to replace it in the boxes on the right.



Directv came by and ran the wiring and installed the dish. You can see my LCD being hooked up and tested. I also ran the wiring for the sound at this time.



Time for the floors to go in.




Time for new furniture that is home theater worthy. I wanted some of those theater chairs, but the wife wouldn't sign off on it since it is still a living room and not a dedicated home theater. This set was a nice functional compromise of both.

The TV has a great picture but will be moved upstairs to the Master bedroom theater setup I am planning (I know, I have a sickness). A 52" Samsung LCD will replace it.

I have about 7 PCs, the Xbox, and Directv receiver all networked together in the house, so all the media from every PC is accessible from the living room and playable on the TV. I also surf the web on the TV occasionally using the wireless keyboard.

The Harmony remote control is a lifesaver when you have a wife/kid who need to operate all this stuff easily. It makes any task only 1 button push away.

 

Looks good Moss! I personally would have probably gotten rid of the built-ins, but that's just me. As far as the TV goes, I'd personally go with a Vizio unless you're planning on going with blu-ray and 120hz Samsung. I've compared all of them lately and Vizio makes some of the most competitive 720/1080 HD TV's on the market. I went with the $750 720P Vizio Plasma from walmart. It's 30,000:1 Contrast, has all the bells and whistles plus it only weighs about 70 lbs.

That's pretty out there, but maybe I can get atleast the first two done.. lol

 

I will be purchasing a Samsung LNA650 120hz 1080p set and a BluRay player.

The dated built-in will receive new cabinet doors with tinted glass inserts and ambient backlighting. I will also do window treatments for the living room.

Right now though, I'm planning to redo the entire upstairs flooring. The upstairs was done with the same berber carpet as downstairs. I will probably go with hardwood flooring up there as well. I may just do hardwoods in the master and carpet the rest of the rooms.
